    It would seem that you could somehow interface with the alrm system, since it must have some interior protection; so therefoe if it is armed/home, you know the place is occupied, and if i is armed/away you can assume it is vacant since a PIR would eventually detect movement.
    My favorite source for Presence Detectors is MS-SEDCO
    but you would have to do your own product research to determine if they had product that suites your application.

    Occupancy detectors

    I am a commercial fire alarm sales guy. A customer asked me to secure his estate.
    Now, he wants sensors in every room and hallway. These will communicate with his CRESTRON system to tell him where people are in the house.
    PIRs are not the best device. It will not detect a sleeping person.

    Somebody told me about a Thermal sensor. Does anybody know anything?
