How to save an Intellex Player file to a computer?

Hey guys (and gals), I was wondering if there was a way to save an Intellex file to a regular computer for editing?

It's not for anything malicious, we are just trying to compile a bunch of clips to music for office viewing. Thanks.

Just save it to your flash drive export it to windows movie maker or whatever you are going to edit it with.

Just make sure not to post it online on youtube or any site of the sorts as that will get you fired quick.

There are two forms of "Intellex Player" available... one that gets installed while burning video clips at the Intellex side and the second one downloadable from the manufacturer's website... which one are you referring to? Either way, you can not export any video contents using "Intellex player"...

However...

If you connect to Intellex with Network Client, you can export the video content other than its proprietary format... as follows:

If you are next to Intellex and want to export video other than its CD or DVD burner, here is how you can do it - http://www.cctvhelp.com/showthread.php?t=244

If you can edit Microsoft Bitmap and Media Player files - then you have the head start on available file formats. I can tell you however that if you modify any of these video files, they will not be admissible in any court system due to the fact that any modification will diminish its authenticity or sometimes even called "water marking"...

Yes it does... You can not export files nor be able to read stored files with any other player other than "Intellex Player"

Jessica, i noticed that you said export it to windows movie maker. I actually cannot stand Public and Employers Liability Insurance movie maker and i'm trying to find another programme to use and wondered if you could point me in the right direction!!

Try using the program "Snag It" ... You can copy anything from a computer screen with that.. including videos. From there you can save those clips you copied as files.

If it's on a CD already, then you can convert it to a .wmv and save it in the media player library.

That's the way we've done ours........cops & DA were getting into a "habit" of misplacing the disks that we'd submit with the evidence, soooooo, we got into the habit of conversion and saving in the library.

Conversion to .wmv format for long term storage is a good idea and reusage in an actual court case only if the courts of the respective states will accept them.

Once the original media is converted to another, it always introduces a challenge by the opposing party lawyers. Intellex systems use what they call it "patented American Dynamics® Active Content Compression (ACC) technology". This format of video files already contain "watermark" authenticating the clip. Many cases challenged it before and they lost.

However, once you convert it to any other format other than its original state (ACC), then depends which courts will be evaluating the evidence, the opposing lawyers always challenge change of the format of the files... Theory goes that once you "convert" the original media, then you could have "changed" or "modified" the content, therefore not admissible by the court. Of course such challenges go to deaf ears by many courts, but there have been cases that it actually was not accepted by the court until the original content was introduced.

There are software products available in the market that allow "cleaning" the video content for better viewing. According to respective manufacturers of such software products, "cleaning" of video content does not alter the watermark or the authenticity of the video. I personally have seen this software packages (some actually are being used by governmental agencies), but I do not recommend them to any of our customers. Just the possible fact that such process can effect their case in the court does not warrant the unnecessary expense.

If the organizations "have a habit" of loosing the CD, my suggestion is that instead of converting the video content and store, make an ISO file and copy its entire content and store on backup system. There are too many software packages that will allow this to happen. Basically take the original CD and copy it in ISO format and store it. Later if you need that content, then restore this ISO back to any CD or media you wish including DVD, thumb drive, etc...

Of course, your challenge might be that the Intellex network client is not exactly free - it usually comes with the unit and includes the license, but if you've received the CD from someone else, you can't just download the software from the manufacturer and start using it like you can with some other DVRs.
