  • Alright all you LOOKY-LOO'S, join up

I just noticed that there were 33 person's on this website, and 27 of them are LOOKY-LOO'S (non-members.)

What the heck are you doing out there? Yes, there is ALOT of good info to be learned from this site (and that's coming from someone who just retired from being a police officer for 26+ years, in other words, I'm learning about the security field from this site too, as I'm getting into the field.), but you probably have some great things to add, or great questions to ask.

Also, where do you get the ability to communicate internationally like this anywhere else. That is truly way cool.

So get your collective butt's in gear and join up.

Moderators can see IPs and User Agents on the "Who's Online" screen. About 20 out of those are bots scanning the forums for search engines, actually. Yahoo! Slurp, GoogleBot, etc.

That's why we always have so many visitors on. Everyone from Windows Live to Google to Yahoo to Ask! to countless other bots are indexing our forum posts for their search engines.

Looky Loo's? Isn't that another analog term for rubber-neckers, particularly at a road side accident or car trouble?

I think you mean leechers or lurkers?

A funny side note. I have this habit, when I want to show somebody something, of saying "looky" (not so much at work or in professional situations). Drives my wife nuts. So it made me real happy years ago, when my pre-teen daughter started saying it.

Also ....if your a member and don't sign on, but surf the site you're shown as a 'looky loo.'

Nate is correct, most of the time the majority of 'looky loos' are crawlers.

I was a looky-loo but didn't join until I had something to say.

"Expert" is something like "leader". It's not a title that you can ever claim for yourself no matter what you might know or might have done. It's a title that others bestow on you based on their assessment of what you know and what you have done.

            Oh well

Well then, if even one or two non bots, and members who don't sign on are reading this thread, and decide to go ahead and join in the fun here as a member, maybe even because of this thread, I will feel I have done a small part to make this site a little bigger and better.

It took me a whole 2 days before I finally joined. I am glad I did!
