True story, happened about a week and half ago.

My brother got home from work and wasn't home 2 minutes, when the doorbell rang. He told the kids to get it, as it was probably more yard apes. My 7 year old niece and a friend headed for the door, and went screeching back saying it was the police. My brother went to the door, and the officer explained they had a 911 hangup from his house. My bro said no, everythngs ok, and of course the officer asked if he could come in. Now let me tell you my brother and I are opposites. He's got a pony tail, and tattoos down his arms. He used to be a biker, and still half looks it. But he also works with me, and has been in the alarm biz for 16 years, so he said, no problem, come on in. Anyway, after questioning, turns out my neice was playing outside, and some neighbor boys said they were going to take the girls shoes. So she told them she was going to call the police. She dialed 91185, but off course the 85 doesn't matter. Plus, to her, it was a police emergency

Anyway, the officer was nice, my brother got some excitement, and my sister-in-law gave my niece and her friends what for.

I asked him why he didn't do what we always joke about. Put some duct tape over your mouth and hop across the room in front of the picture window with your arms behind your back. Ha!

thats very true. I routinely call 911 in Houston with my cellphone due to auto accidents or whatever. Takes 3 or 4 minutes to get the word out. It being texas in all, maybe they figue- "heck, it's texas. If it gets violent the problem will be solved faster than we could get there."

I also remember reading it but don't know where. Another trick especially in a place that has a system like mine. You call 9-1-1, explain the situation to the 9-1-1 Operator who then connects you to the police, fire or ambulance where you have to repeat your story. If you call 9-1-1 & hang up before being transfered they have to send someone quicker.

I do remember reading that somewhere but I don't recall where... if he had actually shot those burglars it'd would've been cheaper on the Justice system eh?

Posted on another forum and thought it would fit here...

George Phillips of Meridian, Mississippi was going up to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window.

George opened the back door to go turn off the light but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things.

He phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?" and he said "no"
Then they said that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be along when available. George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police again.

"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing things from my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I've just shot them." Then he hung up.

Within five minutes three police cars, an Armed Response Unit, and an ambulance showed up at the Phillips' residence and caught the burglars red-handed.

One of the Policemen said to George: "I thought you said that you'd shot them!"
George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"
