  • CHAZ myths and reality

    So, as the national media has reported, protesters have taken over six blocks in Seattle in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, and call it the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ). The truth, as usual, is somewhere in the middle. Contrary to CNN and MSNBC's reporting, it is not the "Summer of Love." While it is relatively peaceful, there has been vandalism, fights between various people (protester on protester and homeless on homeless). Various police officers have been injured and hospitalized, and an equal number have just up and quit.

    Contrary to FOX News and other conservative media, "armed militants" and "terrorist insurgents" have not seized part of the city - in other words, this isn't Baghdad 2003. Yes, the police station was vacated (although there is still staff there), either because there was a threat to burn it down (the initial story) or because the wimpy mayor (Jenny Durkin) ordered it to be closed as an appeasement to the protesters. (And, frankly, both could be true.) Jay Inslee, our weanie governor, initially claimed he hadn't heard about what was going on. (Really? You don't know what's going on in the largest city in your state?)

    This is affecting response times, and morale. If the homeless and the leftist radicals weren't running the city before this, they are now. At my place of work we caught a burglar red handed - the cops just let him go (didn't even run him for warrants), on some lame excuse that we botched the apprehension, and there's no room in the jail because of COVID-19 anyways. I can't blame the officers - why put in the effort when no one supports you? They didn't even escort him off property - just watched him head into another part of the shopping center and let us go and make sure he didn't try to break in somewhere else.

    All in all, an absolute mess, and we are the laughing stock of the country. Say goodbye to tourism and conventions...

    Good. Seattle should lose every business within the city. Lose every tourist venue, hotel, etc. They want this and we should let it happen. Let starvation and disease wrack the city.

    Then and only then, maybe people will wake up and see why government is important, the Rule of Law is important, society isn’t some communal drum circle with dancing in the street.

      This is what happens when you elect the likes of a Jay Inslee, and (Jenny Durkin) who neither have the guts, or "balls" to do something. Yes CG so sad, a Great City of Seattle has been eaten up by radicals Maybe the good people of
      Washington State will boot your Governor out of office. But sadly I don't have much hope for brain dead voters
      &&&
      CG you are not alone Massachusetts has Charlie Baker, and yes a Republican No problems with looters burning businesses
      { Many are black owned businesses} Thousands of protesters with no social distancing. But God forbid my wife's hair stylist
      opens up her business do to COVIID-19, and there is S*it to pay

        Portland protesters tried to set up an "autonomous zone" around the mayor's apartment building. Police came in at dawn, ran them out, and workers came in to get rid of the graffiti, trash and barriers. Law and order - what a concept!
