  • Why middle age Americans are grumpy

    https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/30/u...on-wealth.html

Great example of why its the "failing NY Times" - lots of factors not mentioned or just in passing. Our health care system is so bad that a major medical issue will completely wipe out your savings - and since Americans are getting cancer and diabetes at younger ages, you basically start over financially after a health battle. So what if you bought a house? You probably lost it in the Great Recession, or are just now (almost a decade later) no longer "upside down" on the loan. Money lost, never to be regained.

Anyone over 40 has seen a drop in the character of our politicians, increased corruption in both political parties, and a marked decline in our culture due to the internet and our retreating into factional corners. The middle aged who voted for the The Trump Revolution have now seen that it was smoke and mirrors and a little bit of good. (For example, I'm glad the Feds have discovered that the MS-13 gang is a real threat - better late than never.)

It will be interesting to see how all this plays out over the next ten years...
