The spelling of these two names will be atrocious but here goes. Tok kle and oo-ta-pou Thailand. Tankers in one and fighters at the other. Went there from Andersen in a C-97 with the windows covered over to drop off "bags" of stuff. Normally you got of an aircraft while refueling, we didn't. We found out "where we went" about three months later.
I found out more about those places from the History Channel this and last year than in 1965.
    Enjoy the day,
    Bill

We don't have a draft (right now). We're all volunteer.

When they did have the draft I was too young to know.

    Good ones I hope....

We flew operations out of Nakhon Phanom air base located in northeast Thailand, about 9-10 miles from Nakhon Phanom City. AKA, Naked Fanny, NKP or T-55 on the navigation charts. Aprox 230 miles from Hanoi.

There were no tactical fighters or strategic bombers at NKP. Only old propeller driven aircraft and some helo's. We often inserted and extracted Special Operation Commando's in/out of Laos and Cambodia. Some of the aircraft had civilian markings, some had no markings. This was because the mission of Nakhon Phanom was that of an Air Commando Unit. Flight operations from the base were to support ground personnel, with the support of indigenous personnel in Laos.

Here is a pic of the base I found off the net ...

I tired to join the Armed Forces once. They did not need people at the time. I was rejected because I had an ingrown toe nail!!!
