  • California Licensing: Having license from another state

    Gentlemen,
If an officer holds other state's licenses, including armed, what must be accomplished to obtain a California license for armed security? Is there also a protection license of some sort? What is the quick method, if there is one?

    Thanks in advance.

I think you'll have to retrain.

California does not recognize any other states licenses. You must complete the required 40 hours of training for the "guard card" with an additional 16 hours for the firearms permit. California is also one of the few states that require a full background check before you get your license.

New last year you can also get a Proprietary Security Officer license from BSIS if you only work unarmed for a in-house company. If you go this route you only need 32 hours of company provided training.
