A news release from the Montgomery Police Department states:

On Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 11:29 p.m., patrol responded to a shooting at Club O’s at 1355 E. Blvd. Upon arrival, officers found two subjects shot in the parking lot. The first was the head security guard for the club, Michael Montgomery, age 38 of Coosada, Alabama. He was lying on the curb shot once in the neck. The second victim was James Poole, age 17, of Montgomery. He was lying at the southwest end of the motel shot at least once in the chest. Both subjects were pronounced dead at the scene. Shortly thereafter patrol responded to Baptist Hospital for two more gunshot victims, a 20 y/o male who was shot once in the left knee and a 30 y/o male who was shot multiple times in the back. These subjects drove themselves to the hospital from Club O’s.

Witness interviews indicated there was an altercation between two groups of black males near the front door and it carried over into the parking lot. It is unclear at this point due to conflicting witness accounts of what occurred, but several witnesses saw at least two subjects shooting at each other in the lot. Both were black males of average build, one wearing a white shirt or hoodie and the other a black hoodie. Other witnesses saw the guard, Mr. Montgomery, shooting at the armed suspects. No one knew the identity of the suspects but apparently when the suspects began shooting at each other Mr. Montgomery engaged in a gun battle with them and was shot and killed along with Mr. Poole.

At this point no suspects have been identified and ballistic evidence will have to be analyzed to determine who shot whom and with what type gun. Anyone with information pertaining to these murders is asked to contact the Montgomery Police Department at 241-2651 or Secret Witness at 262-4000.
