The incident happened about 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon at 150 S. 17th St., sending the security guard to a hospital with nonlife threatening injuries, Baton Rouge Police Department spokesman Lt. Charles Armstrong said.

The security guard, who was licensed to carry a firearm, told the man to leave the complex.

The man told to leave the complex returned later with a shotgun and fired a shot at the security guard, Armstrong said. The female guard returned fire, and the man ran away, though police do not know if he was injured.

The fugitive is described as a black teenager about 5 feet 7 inches tall with a slim build, Armstrong said. Wearing blue jean shorts and a white T-shirt, he carried a shotgun.
