A security officer fired two shots at a driver who struck him in the parking lot of a Warren cafe after a troublesome patron was tossed out of the business.

The victim was in guarded condition at a local hospital following the 1:45 a.m. Monday incident at Sao Dam Nightstar Cafe, on 13 Mile Road near Ryan Road.

Employees told police a customer was disorderly and harassing female patrons. A manager and the security guard escorted the unruly male customer, identified only as "Phu," to a black Lexus parked in a lot behind the business because the cafe was closing for the night.

When workers tried to put the man in the passenger seat of the vehicle, he began fighting with the guard, according to a police report. Five men who had sat with "Phu" inside pulled the guard off him.

The guard, identified as a Warren resident who also works as an auxiliary officer for the Inkster Police Department, then wielded a retractable baton.

The five men scattered. Moments later, witnesses heard tires screeching and saw a white Acura strike the guard.

The force of the impact knocked the victim onto the hood and over the side of the car.

The guard fired two shots at the white, four-door vehicle as the driver fled the parking lot. When Warren patrol officers arrived, they found the security officer lying on his back.

Meantime, the owner of Morningstar Cafe, identified as Michael Nguyen, pursued the driver of the Acura onto westbound Interstate 696 but lost sight of the car near Woodward Avenue, police reported. Detectives have no suspects. Witnesses described the driver as an Asian male approximately 6 feet tall, 175 pounds with black hair and wearing a button-down shirt with blue and white stripes and blue jeans.

Nobody answered the phone at the cafe Monday afternoon.
