Ann Arbor police said they arrested a Westland woman after a downtown parking garage employee was assaulted Sunday morning.

Officers responded to the ramp at East William Street and South Fourth Avenue at about 2:20 a.m. and found the woman screaming at a man who worked there.

A parking lot attendant told officers he witnessed the woman arguing loudly with a man as they entered the structure and he opened the door to his booth to see if she needed help. The attendant said he called security when she entered the booth and refused to leave.

The attendant reported she struck the security guard with a portable radio in the head and then hit him in the back of the neck when he walked away, reports said. The 32-year-old Ann Arbor man was not seriously injured.

Police said the 26-year-old woman, who was visibly intoxicated, tried to strike a police officer and had to be dragged to the patrol vehicle. Once inside, she repeatedly smacked her head on the Plexiglas partition and kicked the windows so hard officers had to open the doors fearing they'd shatter, police said.
