The brutal weekend beating of a 66-year-old security guard in Palm Springs was part of an unprovoked attacked, said police chief Gary Jeandron on Monday.
Jeandron also says, during a news conference, that the four people arrested in the attack are all members of the Gateway Posse Crips gang.
The Bower Security guard, who was identified as Wallace Brown, was watching over a construction site on El Dorado Boulevard when police say he was dragged out of his patrol car and beaten.
Brown is on life support at a local hospital.
Jeandron also released the identities of two of the suspects: Darius Lee of Banning and Jamar Thomas of Palm Springs, both 18.
The other two suspects are 17-year-old minors.
The suspects are facing attempted murder charges. The Riverside County Assistant District Attorney says he wants life sentences at the least for the suspects.
