  • PSO Dave Patrick Underwood laid to rest, today.

Today, we laid to rest our friend and brother, Patrick Underwood. For those who didn't know Pat, he was a Constellis / Triple Canopy protective services officer assigned to protect the Ronald V. Dellums Federal Office Building in Oakland, California during a protest of the police killing of George Floyd on May 29, 2020 when he was ambushed by gunfire and killed. His partner was also shot but has since recovered. The suspect, Steven Carrillo and his accomplice Robert A. Justus Jr. have been arrested and are currently awaiting trial. It was uplifting to see the turnout of more than 400+ friends, family, and community, including members of the Federal Protective Service, FBI, Pinole PD, San Francisco PD, the Contra Costa County District Attorneys Office, and Congressman Mike Thompson, who presented Underwood's sister with a U.S. flag that was previously flown over the White House. It's my hope that some how, some way, something good will come from this awful mess. In the words of Pastor Alvin Bernstine of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, “We’re not crying Black tears, we’re not crying White tears. We’re crying human tears. We’re not crying Republican tears or Democratic tears, we’re crying heartbreak tears. We’re not crying law enforcement tears or law-deprived tears. We’re crying justice tears,”

Your post is covered, Pat. Rest easy, we'll take it from here.💙🇺🇸

Politics aside, VP Pence mentioned him by name in his speech tonight (8-26-2020) - very fitting.

RIP Officer Underwood. I was actually on duty in Oakland the night he was killed and it really was a strange night that night...
