  • Private School Security Ambushed and Beaten

    San Antonio, TX:
A 41 year old security guard who was patrolling the grounds at Carver Academy, a private elementary school, was ambushed by a man in some bushes and hit with a rock while the suspect tried to take his gun. The gun was retained, the suspect escaped, and the security officer was transported to the hospital.

Police have not established a motive for the attack.

Ah, here's another account. According to a "police statement", the guard ignored the advances of his attacker before being beaten. The suspect allegedly told the guard he wanted to date him before bashing his head with a rock. The account takes care to make the security seem as incompetent as possible.

I dont really think the second one showed he was incompetent, but kinda funny that the guy attacked him for turning him down.

Things to point out are that he did have weapon retention! Either by a rated holster or by knowing what to do to keep his weapon.

Even a SL 3 holster can be defeated. Usually when a gun is retained, its due to a combination of factors.

I will say this. I gave my unloaded .38 caliber revolver to my company firearms instructor (Previous company). I asked him to remove the weapon from the holster. He was interested in the "new" Safariland 070 holster.

Ten minutes later one of my bosses walked over, did all three motions, and gave me my weapon back and told me to put the holster back on my rig, put the bullets back in the gun, and put the gun back in the holster. Because he's going to lunch and there has to be at least one person armed in the office. And I was holding up our food.

The boss was familiar with the holster, in an automatic version. The firearms instructor was not.
