  • histfan71 On Kwajalein

Well, on April 22 I deployed to Kwajalein Atoll for work. I haven't responded any sooner because it took this long for my computer to catch up with me.

I am just finishing up KPD's in-house training program and if all continues to go well (like passing the PT test tomorrow morning) I will be sworn in on Saturday, May 6 and put to work in patrol.

I will write more and even post some pictures as I get some more time. I will be limited on what I can say since Kwaj is an Army base and the activities and missions here are classified, but I'll do what I can.

My friend spent a little over a year there, he made Sergeant before he left. He liked it, but said there were a lot of morons working there. Apparently it doesn't take much to get in. He also said that the way they do their reports there is ridiculous.

Oh, and have fun locking up the drunken Marshalese people!

Sorry it took so long to respond. I have been having computer problems and I finally got them fixed.

It used to be like you described, but not anymore. The current Chief, who has been here about 18 months, tightened things up. The "morons" either left on their own or did not have their contracts renewed. The remaining officers I have met (there are about 3-4 I have not met yet) have all impressed me with their knowledge, experience, and professionalism.

The initial training was good, but brief. In order to successfully pass training I had to pass a PT test (20 push-ups, 20 sit-ups and 1 mile run), OC spray test, ASP baton test, defensive tactics test, firearms range qualifications (Beretta 9mm, Remington shotgun, and M-16), and an exam on KPD policies and procedures.

The hiring process was also difficult. They reviewed my application packet and I had to send in copies of all my law enforcement training certificates. Then came a background investigation by KPD and another investigation for a Secret clearance, then a complete medical exam.

I assisted in an arrest of a Marshallese citizen last night for being drunk and disorderly and this guy blew a .427! I don't understand how he could still be alive with a BAC that high!

Are you on the KPD, or are you working with Physical Security? Either way, you'll earn your money out there.

            Good luck.
Yes, I am a Police Officer with KPD. There are no more Americans working in Physical Security, those jobs have all been taken by Marshallese.

I went snorkeling on Monday and even though I put sun screen on I still got badly burnt on my back and shoulders! Ouch!
