The Dubai Deal was Questionable Enough, but Now This?

It appears the president or some of his administration has passed a deal allowing a corporation owned and operated by the Chinese military to monitor a shipping port in the Bahamas to detect nuclear materials passing into the United States without U.S. personnel being present.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't that same organization vow to destroy Los Angeles a few years ago with nuclear weapons? Does anybody else see a problem here?

Now, now, that was only if we intervened in Taiwan or assisted the Japanese in their protection of Taiwan....

My point of objection here is the idea of handing over any function of our national security to a foreign country, especially one on which we are on volatile terms with. It was highly advertised when a proposal to let a moderate Arabic country run an operation in some of our ports and the measure was soundly defeated by strong objection by a vast majority. The reasoning behind the objections was that a country other than our own would be conducting such an operation that was deemed as a compromise to our own national security and to the control of our borders. Now that this was defeated, we have a deal that is not advertised by much media at all in which we turn over control of a port to a country with full nuclear capability, one we are not in agreement with and have the potential for conflict with already. This is questionable to me indeed.

I would imagine there would be some type of on-site US presence. As its a foriegn port theres not much the US can do to force anything. Perhaps some type of federal law enforcement liason office. Reminds me of the chinese taking over operations of the Panama canal under Clinton, after Carter gave it away. Yet another fine choice to enhance national security. And don't get me going on port security here in the states.

The real problem is that it is US technology that is there, and being used unsupervised, therefore, it can be tested, and even reverse engineered to find out the "loopholes" in it.

Some concerns would be the importation of neutron bombs, which are very very small, and emit a small amount of radiation. In my opinion, this deal is far worse than any Dubai deal.

I find this to be outrageous. Our leaders are selling out the sovereignty of our country. First it was the idea of selling major arms to the highest bidder, which has gone on for many years. Now they are selling our national security itself. This doesn't just seem to be a problem for the U.S. either. I feel some really major conflict is going to come soon and everybody including you and me will suffer for it.

All of this makes me wonder if the Dubai deal was a good way to make news while the contract for this Panama deal was pushed through.

Unfortunately for the powers that be, someone leaked this out, but the uproar isn't nearly as strong for this, as the Dubai ports deal.
