This looks really funny. It should be right up there with one from 1986 with John Candy "Armed and Dangerous"...

Haha, That's funny. That movie was filmed at the mall in my home town. Can't wait to see it!

            Funny indeed...

But, Security Officers assigned to a mall atmosphere (or in general) already are held in a dim view in the public's eyes, this IMHO only makes those Officers look more dumb and incompetent; There are those of us, no matter what type of account we are assigned to, take our duties seriously, and this is nothing more than "Big Hollywood" taking advantage of the stereotypical "minimum wage, ill educated 'Security Guard'" scenario...

Yeah, this is going to do GREAT things to improve the general public's opinion of Security Officers...

I'm going to write a screenplay in which a locksmith and a mall SO save the world. This will involve beating up Michael Moore somehow.

There may or may not be a Segway crash- I haven't decided if it's a comedy or whatever.

"Expert" is something like "leader". It's not a title that you can ever claim for yourself no matter what you might know or might have done. It's a title that others bestow on you based on their assessment of what you know and what you have done.

I'm afraid I agree with you, but I'm going to reserve judgment until I see the whole thing. From the trailer, he starts off as a cop wannabe who can't cut it (is he really spreading peanut butter on his pie?), and it looks like the typical "SO accidentally saves the day despite being a fat incompetent boob" story. People shouldn't take themselves too seriously, but this image is wearing a little thin and I think we underestimate the power of images.

If you are hired as an SO to perform the duties of your paying client, then IMHO, your duties should be just that; enforce the clients policies without regard...

You work a small building that opposes loitering? anyone on the premises without good reason after 30 minutes to me is loitering...

I (repeatedly) get kids on one of my accounts, "hanging out" and eating/drinking on property that is clearly posted to not do so, and at that point I offer "corrective counseling"...

A few times I've outright booted kids from the property, simply because...
                  (1) They have no valid reason to be there (the property is primarily business offices)...
                  (2) They disrespected me simply for doing my job, so I booted them...

                  Sorry, kinda went tangent there...

but, like most "Cop movies" that magically transform an everyday patrolman into "Serpico", the security equivalent ALWAYS portays the S/O as a bumbling fool; wether or not he gets the bad guy in the end, it's the "bumbling fool" part that almost always stays with and influences the viewer...

Add on the new Seth Rogen movie coming out "Observe and Report" and we've have essentially killed any shred of respect mall security may have had...

While I find both of these movies amusing, it certainly doesn't help our cause any.

I agree with Flashlight Cop and SoCal Public Safety. These movies make a mockery out of security officers and do nothing but make people think even less of what people in this industry do.

I just wanna start off by saying that I have a lot of respect for a the majority of the members on this forum, and in this thread.....

But c'mon we're talking about MOVIES here? I don't foresee any Top Gun type movie coming down the pipe that will make us Gods in the eye of the public.

Then again we all knew the ideologies placed onto us, not only by society, but by our own hiring practices. Not to mention those who "slip through" the cracks...

We should NOT depend upon Hollywood as a positive recruiting tool. But instead depend Hollywood to do what it's always done.... Entertain.

I am going to agree with you on this one. I understand where everyone is coming from, but we have to look at the source... it's Hollywood. Look at Reno 911. It's a funny show that rips on police officers. Several of my LE friends are fans of the show because they know it's entertainment. In fact, these same friends were more critical of S.W.A.T. than they were Reno 911: Miami.

                              Venting...SO's get no respect?

I'm also going to agree with the others....it's just a freakin' movie! Now....

We know security officers don't get much respect because (enter laundry list of petty, real and/or imagined reason here) but, I doubt all of us complaining about it on an industry forum buried deep somewhere in the midst of the internet will get much notice by the public at all. And I'm pretty sure 99% of public wouldn't even care in the end. Heck, though I'm not in the security field anymore, I never cared how anyone perceived me when I was. Not everyone is gonna like us...big deal.

I think everyone, no matter what job they have, from the stay at home mom to that kid flipping burgers so he can save up for his first car to the overworked ER nurse, feels they get no respect due to what they do. I fully understand the passion behind what we all feel/felt because of the stigma attached to the title but, c'mon...who cares what other people think?! I mean really!
