All much more then Observe and Report.

While security necessarily doesn't have police authority, it has many tools that it can use to accomplish the job.

Also with the new detention bill, a class G security officer, will be able to detain to a much greater ability than just a citizen's arrest, it also rewords the use of force statute to add that force can be used for any legal detention, as well as allows per statute for that security officer to perform a search of the person arrested as well as property for weapons. This is much more than your "lite pat down".
I thought the detention bill was shot down.

Still wondering why his license was revoked on a cleared shooting.

He wasn't carrying his licenses on the night of the shooting that's why they were revoked.

My problem with these articles is the following

          and

          and finally

Unless he had a badge which said POLICE or was telling citizens that he was a Law Enforcement Officer I say the reporter is full of BS.
Law Enforcement Officers don't have exclusive use of "Official looking shirts", badges or even equiptment belts. The blue shirt and black pants I wear could be seen the same way. The duty belt I carry my radio, flashlight, keys and latex glove pouch could be called a "law enforcement type belt". But I'm not and have never claimed to be Law Enforcement.
It just stoke my fires to hear stuff like this in the media and also from cops. Yes, security guards wear badges. So do firefighters. I had a badge issued by the FD for wear on my dress shirt. EMTs wear badges. Heck, I have custom badges which say Concealed Carry Permit and check out my Ham Radio Badge with my FCC issue callsign....
Actually in Florida, the "5 Star Badge" is reserved for the Sheriff and Deputy Sheriffs. Also, if this guy was working in-house for the nightclub, which most nightclubs use in-house security, he would be exempt from licensure under Chapter 493 F.S. Therefore, the state would have no say so on his uniform, firearm (if the employer allowed him to carry), taser, OC, or the baton.

I'm not trying to defend the guy because there are 2 sides to every story, however, there is a gray, almost white line drawn here.

Carrying a firearm instantly subjects you to the full brunt of FSS 493. You need a Class G license to carry, and then a Class D license to have the Class G.

If you attempt to be an armed proprietary security guard with a Class W weapons permit, its a 493 violation as well, making the Class W worthless.

It kinda looks like this was swept under the rug. Why couldn't they call him a bouncer and him being armed as an agent of the owner. I kinda wonder if police didn't try to get him in trouble b/c they were losing off duty leo security jobs as a result of him working.

Yes, i must've been mistaken . I knew one of them didn't have their license. I put in a public records request on why his licenses were suspended . the state should get back to me soon.
