Another memorable one was driving 3 hours to a post only to find no bugger had bothered to tell the Ops Mgr that the job was cancelled. I hit them for the full 12 hours as I had taken this roster based on bonus travel allowances.
The temporary bus terminus was a bad memory as it was a giant wind tunnel, was away from the police station by 200 yds, when it rained it always wet your trousers around your calves and wet the pages in your records book. There was minimal shelter around as you were expected to check with the driver and check on passengers for the late night services home. When winter hit you had to do a Michael Jackson with only 1 glove on due to the extensive book work and without warning you would be chasing your hat down the road if was not secured right (only in winter did I wear it or if it was raining). A few nights I remember being sick with the flu, counting down the 5 hours and counting the superb cash we got paid as Inspectors / Security.
