  • Pull Over

OK I've read other's rants, so time for my own...

A major pet peeve of mine is people who wont pull over for emergency vehicles with systems activated, last week an ambulance is approaching opposite direction lights and noise, I pull over but the clown directly behind me drives around me WTF??? I give him the horn and the (you moron) look.

Today I was doing radar, clock a pickup doing 48 in a 25 Km/H. I put my truck into gear and light up, when I get behind her at a stop sign I "woop" the siren, no need to wail on it right? WRONG... She takes a left and keeps going, the car in front of her pulls over and she drives around him. So I give her 2 "woops" this time NOTHING... Finally she goes into a parking lot and finds a spot (my lights are still going). I stop behind her and approach the truck. "Do you use your mirrors"? I ask and she says yes, I remind her that "red lights mean pull over, lets see your pass" (need a pass to be on the property) I continue to tell her that I have been following her for a while and so on. I ask her if she knows how fast she was going, "hope it wasn't over 20"... "Well ma'am, it's a 25, I locked you in at 48, get back in your truck and I'll be right back". I felt I made her feel bad enough so I dropped the ticket to 43, In our plant 20 Km/H over the posted is a month of driving privileges removed. I remind her of that and give her the ticket...

A while back I'm escorting an ambulance in for a chest pain patient at our main first aid post. 3/4 of the trip in is fine, lights and noise going when required, people pull over and were all good. But then theirs the one... I get behind her and hit the siren... nothing, like driving Ms. Daisy or something, finally I get right on her bumper and switch the siren to phazer sound. Eventually had to just wait for a break and go around... Fortunately the patient ended up OK after treatment.

Do people not realize that when emergency vehicles are operating lights and siren that there may be a slight problem somewhere or were trying to get there attention???
I'm the guy you don't want to be around when your doing something wrong, but you can't wait for me to get there when your down, to fix you up...

For some time, a few motor units I knew would listen to the FD frequency on the hand held radios and if they heard one in the area responding, they would try to follow them in on the call with the specific purpose being to cite anyone who did not yield right-of-way to the emergency vehicles. A nice fine to go with that slap in the face called reality!

Of course, these were the same guys who got a kick out of blowing by us in their low profile mustangs when we were working radar. Those little mustangs were FAST!

        Road Ignorance

I had to drop off my father at the hospital today and at the same time 2 ambulances came screaming down the road to ER. I pulled over for 1 with some idiot in front of me just wanting to block the road (making some effort to get out of that lane partly helps the driver). The 2nd time I got caught in traffic so had to sit pretty when the lights went green as the ambulance came down the other side of the road - I was honked at by the driver behind me and it came close to some biffo when I yelled out at the ambulance coming up my clacker (new word for Curtis to research).

This stupid sheila then pulls up (double parked) and abuses me only for the ambumalance to come up behind her WAILING away and I was just thinking what would happen if it was a car accident or someone close to a DOA stage and she had delayed them by 1 minute too long. Another disease is the need to have the radio up and full point whilst not checking your rear view mirrors for any concerns - HELLO basic driving education here.

            Clackers!

Outside of AU (and maybe NZ) - here's what clackers means to the rest of the world.

NRN_OZ - I have had the privilege of traveling to many places around the world, and can say with certainty that Australia is the only place where I was continuously asking....What does that word (or phrase) mean?

That and the people who won't stop for a school bus with red lights flashing.
I used to get off at 8:30 every day, adn always caught the same bus stopping to pick up kids at teh same spot nearly every day. I would stop and wait for the bus to start, but I can't tell you how many times some idiot would fail to stop who was ahead of me, or if I was past, breeze right on by them.

One gal even tried to go around me and I cut her off by turning sideways in the street.

But I see it all the time as well. People who do not know enough to pull off for emergency vehicles.

It bothers me too when people fail to yield or take advantage of those motorists who do pull over. What I would like to see is a law allowing LE to impose one of two charges on such motorists based on how egregious it was:

                  - Infraction for unintentional violations
                  - Misdemeanor for deliberate violations

It would be left to the officer's discretion to decide which one fits the offense.

Hey I recall your school bus rule when my colleague was screaming her charlies off (work it out Craig) about getting me to stop NOW as I was driving up to a school bus. I got a stern lecture on distance and following the lights on the bus and then saw some meathead overtake me before hearing the siren and lights come from the other side. Here you are let the school bus stop, proceed past but do not move if the rear amber lights are flashing (giving them right of way) and watching for kids to run from anywhere around a bus (oh and it is almost a 40kph speed zone outside schools before school and pick up time.

Now Mr Craig, a few choice words in a foreign lingo can let you say what you want as only an aussie will pick it up and fire back some clasics. Some of my worst moments include being asked if I "wanted a sack" at a 7/11 store and me arguing "no thanks a bag will be fine (free policy with no bagging in a sign). I explained a sack meant a 50lb size bag for cement or sugar // telling a colleauge I was going to "water the plants" before it was my shout (meaning I was off for a pit-stop and coming back to buy a round". He quietly told me I just had to act nice and not shout in the bar, red faced when I explained I was buying.

Ok just some notes: Your clacker is the same as your Khyber Pass (rhyming slang for buttocks) and I do recall those Clackers, as kids would go click - click - click then flick it real fast to get an ACK ACK sound going and a Fanny Pack would earn you a slap from a girl her as it means her genitalia but as I said before the worst one was my friends Lutheran Church Group with a the home school kids with a banner saying "Get Well Soon - we are all rooting for you" - which to mean meant everyone was having sex (rooting does mean sex). I had to quietly explain to my friend what it meant and she was as red as beetroot as her husband was the pastor for the Parish. He did see the funny side of things when I visited them later that year.

In the Plant I'm at {Oil Refinery} we patrol and monitor traffic on every shift. We are also charged with traffic duties which include pulling over the violators and issuing citations as nesessary.

The other day I was entering our plant from a public access road {So I have to wait for the gate to close behind me} when I see one of our company pick-up trucks speed past me {I was in full sight of this driver} Our Plant Speed Limit posted is 15MPH - I'll usually cut a break at 20-22MPH and even 25MPH during Third Shift {Less Traffic} I watched this guy go around a speed bump and keep going at 35MPH for about 1/2 Mile. I hit the lights, got in behind him, and gave him the "Whoop, Whoop" but it didn't take for several blocks. All the other vehicles were pulling over but this idiot kept going until he finally realized the flashing Red Lights behind him were ment for him.

His excuse......"My mind was elsewhere and I was trying to read this new policy directive before getting to my meeting that I'm now late for becuase you pulled me over...." WOW....You can't fix stupid !!

End result.....I wrote the ticket and assessed points to his record {3 Points} He's all up-set but admitted to doing wrong. Come to find out he was from our Health& Safety Department......Go figure

Of course....the rules don't apply to him, just other employees.

I hate idiot drivers. There's only a handfull of people besides myself and other members of this board, that should be allowed to drive.

I really wish law enforcement would concentrate on these idiots mentioned in above posts, followed by the other stupid ones that block stoplight intersections by trying to make it through in traffic, the weavers, and the ones that cut people off.

                            red lights

i have read this posts, and have some question.. no not about the violators...but about the lights...
Are you talking here about law enforcement-police lights or security lights?
Aren't security lights supposed to be only amber with no sirens? or are you all police officers here?
I have seen Russian security company's using blue flashes.. But in Europe it is mainly ONLY amber ,well sometimes red lights, but no sirens allowed...

So are you guys in usa allowed to use other color lights then amber? and sirens as well?

I see this frequently, an emergency vehicle will come up with lights/siren and I swear the motorists in front are like deer caught in the headlights! They sit there with a blank look wondering what they should do...
