OK I've read other's rants, so time for my own...
A major pet peeve of mine is people who wont pull over for emergency vehicles with systems activated, last week an ambulance is approaching opposite direction lights and noise, I pull over but the clown directly behind me drives around me WTF??? I give him the horn and the (you moron) look.
Today I was doing radar, clock a pickup doing 48 in a 25 Km/H. I put my truck into gear and light up, when I get behind her at a stop sign I "woop" the siren, no need to wail on it right? WRONG... She takes a left and keeps going, the car in front of her pulls over and she drives around him. So I give her 2 "woops" this time NOTHING... Finally she goes into a parking lot and finds a spot (my lights are still going). I stop behind her and approach the truck. "Do you use your mirrors"? I ask and she says yes, I remind her that "red lights mean pull over, lets see your pass" (need a pass to be on the property) I continue to tell her that I have been following her for a while and so on. I ask her if she knows how fast she was going, "hope it wasn't over 20"... "Well ma'am, it's a 25, I locked you in at 48, get back in your truck and I'll be right back". I felt I made her feel bad enough so I dropped the ticket to 43, In our plant 20 Km/H over the posted is a month of driving privileges removed. I remind her of that and give her the ticket...
A while back I'm escorting an ambulance in for a chest pain patient at our main first aid post. 3/4 of the trip in is fine, lights and noise going when required, people pull over and were all good. But then theirs the one... I get behind her and hit the siren... nothing, like driving Ms. Daisy or something, finally I get right on her bumper and switch the siren to phazer sound. Eventually had to just wait for a break and go around... Fortunately the patient ended up OK after treatment.
Do people not realize that when emergency vehicles are operating lights and siren that there may be a slight problem somewhere or were trying to get there attention???
