  • The ones, be ready for them.

There's always at least one of these lurking around, be aware of them and have a one-liner at the ready at all times for them they are "The ones":

Annoyingly friendly person who thinks you're all his best friends.

The know it all, who's always got a better way, knows your job better than you and seems to have no other purpose in life aside from getting under your skin and making you look like an idiot at any cost, which always seems to bring his own stupidity to light for all to see (regardless your still gunna be wrong).

The anti-authority types who seem to forget that you're not only the guy who's checking his ID pass just to be, in his view a prick. You're also the same prick who's gunna do whatever you can do to fix him up or save his life when he goes down injured while on the property (for us dual role types here).

The ones that seem to think that the rules of the road end where your property begins, then they meet the radar gun or seatbelt check with surprise and disbelief.

The ones who think that nothing goes on in your gate house/office aside from meeting their demands and signing their paperwork and expect you to ignore the 5 people who you are already assisting.

The ones who, while you are correcting/re-educating them on the rules, just blankly stare at you like a dear caught in a set of headlights as if they can't comprehend a word your saying.

I could go on but feel free to add your own "the ones"
I'm the guy you don't want to be around when your doing something wrong, but you can't wait for me to get there when your down, to fix you up...

If you don't stand behind our troops, feel free to stand in front of them.

“The one” who thinks that there cell phone conversation is more important than anything I’m saying in person about their personal safety. A warring such as “Excuse me. Please watch your step, some 4 year old just threw a drink on the floor and you need to step around it.” But no, they fall on there *** with that phone still glued to there ear.

Yeah, Grrr, bicyclists and skateboarders that won't wear helmets, even though it's required. Schools out for Christmas so that will be higher rates of curfew violations, mischef. And speeders out in the Christmas rush.

The ones who want their CCTV to perform like on CSI and have about $200 budgeted for an entire facility.

Like the one I had yesterday, who needed to recognize faces from 100 feet (30m) out, be in focus the entire length, and "not be too big and ugly". Oh, and it's out in the country, so it needs to see in near-total darkness when there's no moon out.

When I explained to this customer that it would be $600+ per camera (off the top of my head), they freaked and accused me of being a theif.

"Expert" is something like "leader". It's not a title that you can ever claim for yourself no matter what you might know or might have done. It's a title that others bestow on you based on their assessment of what you know and what you have done.

Worse when it is someone internally who is ready to rock the boat or let the team down with their behaviour. I had 1 LPO who ALWAYS borrowed money off people. Not $5.00 or $10.00 for lunch but $50.00 + off p/time and casual staff who counted on every dollar. I had 1 husband ring me of a sales person he borrowed money off and I agreed to follow it up as his wife came to me crying about it. I approached the LPO who told me - Oh it was $20.00 and I paid her back. She came into my office and accused him of lying saying it was $100.00 and he promised to pay it back the next pay week. It really put a load on the other LP staff and placed this bloke as a target and when I found he was stealing merchandise I was glad to arrest him.

Since we are in the casino industry, there is quite a bit of borrowing and lending money that goes on. In my security department we found a simple solution. Borrowing or lending money to a fellow employee or customer is grounds for imediate termination.

Too bad that a license isn't required to be a parent these days. It would be a great source of state income too!

                          Yeah, another expense- great.

My kid already eats about $8 worth of formula a day and goes through about $6 worth of diapers and baby wipes a day. He's already outgrown all his undershirts and about three quarters of his clothes. I haven't even seen the bill from the hospital yet.
