  • Ever do work for any celebrities?

Just got news that I will be working at a book signing for The Right Honourable Jean Chrétien (former Canadian Prime Minister), just wondering if anyone else has had the pleasure of working for any big time people. I was hoping to work the Bret Hart book signing but missed out on that one. I also missed the Brian Mulroney job as well, but thats because I wasn't a guard at that point lol.

Any and all experiences are welcome, doesnt matter if its a local or international celebrity, I'm just looking for others experiences with this sort of thing.

Recently, we had Ashley Tisdale (from High School Musical) do a concert at my mall and I got to ride around with her (and her crew) and go shopping with her (and her crew) as part of a security detail

When I was an Auxiliary Deputy Sheriff, I did a detail when Dierks Bentley (Country music singer) came to the county fair. I also did a detail with the Beach Boys at a different county. I think there were a couple others I cant think of.

It can be a PITA because it has to be coordinated with their security and managers and things always change. In Ashley's case, she is a huge Hollister fan. Once she saw we had one in the mall, we had to sneak her in the back entrance of the store while the store was still closed. Unless otherwise told, you got to keep the fans a distance away and escort the protectee through back hallways, etc.

I have, but then again, the newspaper guy is a celebrity to me since he gives me free news papers so I can look in the local want ads To heck with world champions. They don't do anything for me at all, except some make bitchy demands like being recognized immediately. Fat chance, "Just doing my job, Mam".

Real people interface is what I treasure: not putting overpaid gifted people on a pedestal most do not wholely or ethically desrerve. That would make me feel underpaid and stupid. I don't need any help remembering that.

that part about going shopping while the store is closed is one of those things that grind my gears. I'll bet she got a huge bag of free stuff before the show too. Celebs tick me off.

The only time I was directly involved with a Celeb was when Tommy Lee came to my nightclub and I was posted at his table. The whole night I literally had to shove fanatic girls behind the velvet rope.

We told Suge Knight that he couldn't come into our nightclub after his crew was causing problems the week before.

I have had former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, Former Quebec seperatist Premier Réne Levesque & former Montreal mayor Jean Drapeau together at a lunch one day.

The movie Benj was shot at one of my hotels.

I sat outside a room while Johnny & June Cash slept inside.

Rita O'Neil (Canadian singer) stayed overnight at one of my hotels.

Cortney Love stayed at one of my hotels but I was on my day off.

The leader of Quebec's fastest growing party Mario Dumont will be in my hotel on Wednesday for a meeting of 500 members of his Action Democratique.

Former Quebec Lt. Governor came to meetings at the hotel 2 or 3 times.

Former Olympic Swim Champions including Ian Thorpe (the bloke with the size 18 US feet), Cher / Kylie Minogue / Dannii Minogue / Village People all were special guest performers at a dance party, NYE broadcast with dozens of tv celebs, Megan Gale (Model), Marcia Hines, David Heltcott ("Shine" Pianist) and a few others. Worst one was working for the likes of "Patch" from Days Of Our Lives with hundreds of middle-aged women tossing underwear at him at a shopping centre. Some were later used as tents by the homeless. We were some 8 years behind and I think he had left the series by when he made an appearance but these women were beside themselves with excitement.

I was fortunate to work the VIP entry of the 2000 Olympics Closing Ceremony and met all the world leaders as well as our politicians (no big deal) and OOC leaders as well. I have worked with a few private celebs but these are for public appearances where I just blended in with the group entourage.

Celebs? Depends on what you call a Celeb, but yea, a few over the years.

-When I was a Jail Guard I did a month in the Special Clients section (read: Isolation lol) and Darlie Routier (the Rowlett housewife who killed her kids) was one of my guests

-One day I rode shotgun for my Dad (owns a limo company and does a lot of his own driving) when he picked up rapper Pastor Troy at the Airport, spend the whole night with him and his 'crew' and it was really an experiance. PT puts on this renegade anti-religious persona for people, but that night at the hotel inculded bible reading and a walk downtown with his fiancee (that goes everywhere on tour with him). He;s a big fat gangsta fraud lol, nice guy though.

-I've talked about my time working for Mark Cuban (before he owned the Mavericks, way before he was on Dancing with the Stars) and my run in with H Ross Perot

-When I was a Public Service Officer with the Baylor Health Care System Police Department, Saudi Ambassador Bandar Bin-Sultan spent a week being treated on one of the private floors, I was responsible for patrolling the area. That 1st night we hadn't gotten all the security protocals down and as I exited a stairwell onto his floor I was confronted by a VERY well armed Diplomatic Security Service agent lol. Glad i used the restroom before I started my patrol, it could have gotten "messy" otherwise (i tend to have bad reactions to sub-machine guns being pointed at me lol).

-Here at the College we get "dignitaries" sometimes. Like Texas Governor Rick Perry, , Singer Willie Nelson (that's one funny son of a gun, had us all laughing telling us about some of his "run ins" with "you cop types" lol), Poet Maya Angelou and writer Toni Morrison.

Really, people are just people, other than their celebrity all these people seemed like normal folk.

I could have gone on tour with "April and the Texas Rangers" as part of the security team, but I had a new girlfriend at the time (now wife) so I turned it down.
Not a security job, but I spent a day as the valet for "Freddy Fender and the Texas Tornados" back when I worked in a hotel. They were giving a concert the following day so they were rehearsing and I got paid to get them soda, coffee, etc but mostly I just sat and enjoyed the music and had a great time. Teriffic group of guys. Spent all day doing that. I still can't believe the hotel paid me for that.

I worked a post where the Jerry Lewis Telethon was in full swing here locally ( Tampa Bay ) several years ago. There, I did a escort of Derrick Brooks # 55 who is a probowl Tampa Bay Bucs Linebacker. On another site ( Mall) , Hulk Hogan and his children wanted to go see a movie at a movie theater on property. Once he was seen in the parking lot, large groups began to mass. I had to escort him and his family into the theater and had to return when the movie ended.

Julie Andrews from Sound of Music fame. Tom Wopat from the Dukes of Hazzard. Frank Gorshin from Batman. Gregory Harrison from Trapper John MD. Tom Bosley from Happy Days.

                        All have been pretty nice.

Derrick Brooks is a Pensacola native. His mom was in and out of our hospital many times before he passed away. The first day he came in to visit her he stopped by my office. Now not being a local or a Bucs fan I didn't know exactly who he was until he said his name. We spent some extra time in the area that his mom was too keep nosy people out. For the most part we didn't have a problem.

What really got me into a fury was after she passed away. I was down releasing the body to the funeral home and before I could me, 2 of my hospital officers and the patrol officer had to clear out 3 camera crews from the vacinity of our morgue!

Talk about a pissy Security Officer, I hadn't yelled like that since my Marine Corps times. lol

                            Hmmm....

I've done security for some big artists when they perform down here in Austin, but we were always told never to disclose our clients' names, etc. regardless of how long it had been since we did the job. Our LT said it is unprofessional and not very bright...

Who made him an LT anyway? I'll bet his dad owns the company Seriously at first it seems petty but our business is so cut throat that he may be wary of the competition stealing some of your accounts. Also some public people have the contract people Security, Caterers,Venue staff etc, sign a confidentiality clause.

There was a case a couple years ago whereas a long time security officer asked a famous baseball star for his autograph. This guard company was under strict rules to never do that as some were found on E-Bay. The player did not complain but someone that overheard him ask ratted him out and he lost his job on the spot.
