As to Bigdog's statement, I have to ask why one would ask for POI. I can see reg, maybe, DL is obvious, but why ask a motorist for POI?
As far as Josh, I ask the following:

Amber is the safety colour and tow-trucks, auto club and specialist towers (like bikes) have them as well as security patrols should - be used only as a warning device only. That video was just a pure sales gimmick that to me backfired and would be an embarrassment to the industry - globally. Probably watching too many re-runs of COPS.Last edited by NRM_Oz; 12-03-2007, 05:09 AM."Keep your friends close and your enemies even closer" Sun Tzu

Also, I saw no illegal lights in that video. His light bar was amber. Some Kind of Commando Leader

His light bar was red/amber. And I will bet that he was working a gated HOA which I have heard works slightly different then the normal security. There are a few HOA's in northern California that run red/amber or red/blue one of the 2 and do make vehicle stops for moving violations on HOA property as well as cite for all HOA violations. As far as asking for POI it is most likely also a violation of the association rules to drive on the property with no insurance.

My thoughts here are .....
1. The POI, is just odd and unless you have access to DMV records, you're not going to be able to verify if the insurance is current.
2. I use the registration card, to verify that the vin (last 6) matches what's on the card. Many times car thieves will use a registration card from a previously stolen vehicle. They will take the plates and switch them as well. Alot of work, but if you think about it it's not a bad trick to utilize.
3. His officer safety was just horrible. For the first 17 seconds, he wasn't even paying attention to the driver. His eyes were busy reading everything the driver handed him. I personally will take a quick glance, and wait till I get back to the car. His back remained turned the whole time, when he finished speaking with the driver. His back remained facing the stopped vehicle while being too busy trying to talk to the camera.
4. I definitely concur that, this officer has watched way too many episodes of COPS.Last edited by BadBoynMD; 12-03-2007, 12:17 PM."Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

I saw nothing illegal about that stop quite frankly. POI is curious to me however. And I concur with the you all, his Officer safety needs a lot of work though.

Nightly, I still see companies run all amber, even after all this time.
I think some are dragging their feet for some reason. Some simply do not want to become more professional I suppose.

HankOr reporting them to the state for a violation of 493. This is not a matter of, "Oh, we'll change if we feel like it," this is a matter of, "Chapter 493 makes running any lights other than 50/50 amber/green a rule violation." Period.

493.6118 still reads
(i) Impersonating, or permitting or aiding and abetting an employee to impersonate, a law enforcement officer or an employee of the state, the United States, or any political subdivision thereof by identifying himself or herself as a federal, state, county, or municipal law enforcement officer or official representative, by wearing a uniform or presenting or displaying a badge or credentials that would cause a reasonable person to believe that he or she is a law enforcement officer or that he or she has official authority, by displaying any flashing or warning vehicular lights other than amber colored, or by committing any act that is intended to falsely convey official status.Last edited by bigdog; 12-03-2007, 07:42 PM."Get yourself a shovel cause your in deep Sh*t"
