    In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
    Canadian Army

IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.
Quote me as saying I was mis-quoted.
    Groucho Marx

          The veteran

This was sent to me in my email. I have seen one other called "the soldier" that is similar however the same message holds true.
          Lest we forget.

          .................................................. .................................................. ....

It is the VETERAN , not the preacher,

Who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the VETERAN , not the reporter,

Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the VETERAN , not the poet,

Who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the VETERAN , not the campus organizer,

Who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is the VETERAN , not the lawyer,

Who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the VETERAN , not the politician,

Who has given us the right to vote.

          It is the VETERAN ,

          Who salutes the Flag,

          It is the veteran ,

          Who serves under the Flag,

ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD,

AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM.
I'm the guy you don't want to be around when your doing something wrong, but you can't wait for me to get there when your down, to fix you up...

If you don't stand behind our troops, feel free to stand in front of them.

Sadly as the generations of the first & second wars fade into memory, recognition of their sacrifices and of all those who've served since receive less appreciation/respect from generations that benefit directly from their efforts

JB diligence... there's one more line that is missing from that quote

It is the VETERAN , not the educator,

Whom we should thank we read/write/speak english.

For our American cousins - Today is Rememberence Day in Canada, the UK & Australia? Tomorrow will be a bank & I believe a Federal Government holiday but sadly no one else celebrates it, not even schools

I noticed it was missing a line as well, as is found in the poem, The Soldier:

It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,
                    who serves beneath the flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag,
who allows the protester to burn the flag.
