I had a guy cut a path across dual gates and got clipped taking a shortcut. A one sentence in log sheet is all its worth. No one is wasting time and resources for his shortcuts, just to justify his insurance. In your situation, illegal alien (likely) cleaners parking in non-secure zones during the holidays with expensive cleaning equipement could have just robbed themselves. Sounds like a Homer Simpson act they want you to legitimize ('Gringo'

Last night in Walmart Supercenter, I picked up 3 boxes torn open from illegal aliens (likely) having a smorgesborg meal. One guy was standing with his hand on top of a box (for over 5 minutes) above his head trying to look like he was 'casually' leaning on boxes (on main aisle beside waist-high lunch meat coolers), while he was stealing a 'snack': he was selective and determined, and Walmart is favorite 'free-lunch' spot for illegals Nationwide (maybe that's why they are more expensive now). I noted a few dozen likely illegals perusing grocery aisles without a shopping cart - ?!!??! - (Eat and Go shopping).
Your incident is police work, and let the illegal alien wait one half day for the police. And then the police can bring their (illegal alien likely) interpretor and listen for hours to illegal's playing the 'gringo' game: just idley bs'ing, hopeing the LE will write whatever the illegals want down just to so they can get the hell out of there. And why all this in the first place? LE does not enforce the illegal alien laws on the books, so its just more tax payer dollar drain for the rich to save 30 cents an hour labor equivalent to offset nonproductivity and employeee turnover. The rich's greed wants to offest all their labor cost variance onto the tax payers to support illegals infrastructure housing, education, medical, LE, higways, etc...

There should be a 'training' course in Nogales or Juarez, Mexico called 'GRINGO SECURITY TRAINERS' (or at least a couple of modules in Florida's D-Class 40 hour training course).
How to report posts. A primer.

Moderators of a forum running vBulletin can be informed of posts which the reader feels violates the forum rules, or even the rules of common decency, by clicking the icon at the top right hand of the post, in the blue bar.

A screen will appear, asking them to enter information about the reported violation. This will then go to every moderator and forum administrator's email account.

-=+=- End of Primer -=+=-

A violation report was received. This thread is now locked. It will be unlocked after I deal with the problem in it.

You're a harsh man Nathan!

OT - As you didn't witness said criminal damage and it's off site, I agree a full report wasn't warranted, though as Hank already stated an 'informational notation' of some sort in addition to the log entry can't hurt either

I'm for NO report.

CorpSec, I am in agreement with the posts stating that no report is necessary or warranted.

Just because someome is going to be conducting some business at your building / facility, does not mean you are responsible for them from the time they leave their home, to the time they go back home.

If they would have gotten into a traffic collision on the street that they were parked on, would you write the report, I think not. (Assuming the collision did not involve any of your building / facility's property.)

If you consider your property as if it is a city, the street is in the jurisdiction of another city, and just like a city cop witnessing an incident in another city, you would call that other city to let them handle the incident.

It is not as clear cut as that. I remember reading about an hotel that was sued & the person won, because the guest had asked if the area around the hotel was safe. The hotel said yes. The person was attacked & got hold of the police records which showed that the area was in fact very unsafe.

Here in Montreal many years ago a guest asked a Doorman if it was safe to park his van that would not fit in the parking area, on the street. The Doorman said yes. The van was stolen. I do not know if the guest won.

Ah, but those are false advertising. The hotel asserted that the area was safe, an advertisement of conditions.

CorpSec, nor his employer, made such statements, did he?

First off, neither of these cleaners were Hispanic. We have a lot Hmong and Somali folks up here.

We make no claims about the safety of the public streets around the buildings.

To me, this borders on a no brainer, but the officer seemed geniunely taken aback by the fact that I didn't complete a report and stated that his direct supervisor had him do the whole dog and pony show of taking pictures and completing a report when the contract cleaning manager had his windows broken on the street.

My personal philosophy is if I have to ask myself "Should I write a report on this?" Then I go ahead and write the report. It has been my experience that Daily Log reports are overlooked much more than incident reports.

I did send my boss a quick e-mail heads up on what happened and said that would write an IR if he would like. He got back to me and asked me to complete an IR on it.

Whatever. I don't agree, but we all have to do things that the don't make sense to appease our bosses. It is just part of the game. I am sure I have asked my guys to do a few things over the years that had them scratching their heads.

Like I had said before a reason very well might be to paint this as a bad neighborhood and be able to put on a stat sheet that we responded to X number of incidents in 2007 to justify our existence and budget.

My standard response when one of my officers asks me if they should write a report is "Yes." I also write reports whenever the question comes into my own head as to whether or not one should be written. That being said, a log entry is sufficiant in this case.

If an officer has any doubt in his or her mind about writing a report, choose the conservative approach and write it. Always remember the "what if's."

I would note it but would not do a formal report.

I would have written the report. Not because I am responsible for them or that the area falls in my "jurisdiction", but because somebody doing business with our customer had a crime committed against them while that business was being conducted. It may be in my customers best interests that the report be filed with photos (eg. contractor claims crime was committed on customer property, when the detailed report and attached photos clearly show this was not the case.) If any crime is committed on my shift in an area that can even be construed as being on my customers property (or otherwise area of legal/civil responsibility), I fully document it. Better to do it and end up not having needed to do it, than to not do it and end up having needed to.

Agreed with CandAces as there are repercussions of "hmmmmmmm I can sue them for not protecting me, right Mr Lawyer ?". When I worked Command and Control as a Shift Commander, often I would do the I/R's for the fact that most of these officers were 30 wpm typists and would make too many mistakes and during a power failure -alarms would go crazy. The only upside I could see of writing a report is to help paint the picture of the neighborhood surrounding our buildings as unsavory and thus justifying our existence and staffing levels. However, once they make the telephone report, it will show up on the local crime map which we get a copy of anyway.
This is why you write that report. We write reports for break-ins that involve employees adjacent to our property. Really this is for the suits that have no clue what we do. It lets them know that we are here for a reason and it might get your department a pay increase, it just happened here.
