  • What day does your pay period end?

    My weekly pay period ends on Thursday. Then get paid the following Friday.

    Like the day after? Or the week after?

    I'm the owner, and our pay period ends on Sunday, and we pay the following Friday. I did this because i want to remain poor . Really, I used to work where pay period ended on Friday. So if we had to work or you got called out on Saturday or Sunday, they would tell you to take off to lose the overtime. I didn't think that was fair. Of course the trouble is, sometimes it's warranty work or a deadline on a bid job, so we're not getting paid overtime. And sometimes if they work part of Saturday or Sunday, they want a day off the next week. So they get OT, and time off.

      It almost sounds like Plugger works for a company that keeps back one week's pay. This is pretty common from what I understand, and is used to keep something as incentive for you to turn uniforms in, etc.

      I know in Florida, they'd (some companies) take your check if you took their uniforms, then turn you in to the state for license revocation.

        As most people are paid every 2 weeks in Australia on a Thursday, Pay periods finished 0600 Monday morning so if you worked Sunday night it was included. Sometimes I would make $2.5k clear for those 14 days as I would work 14 hour shifts and with nights and penalties included would be a rich man but a tired one too.

        1 company paid you Friday morning so people would come to work and they had money for the weekend and 1 site was so strict in moving around that you could never go and buy lunch so I saved hundreds a month in not buying lunch or going for a walk to spend on stuff.

        When I used to work at our famous stadium their pay period was the week before so if I worked 2 shifts during that period I may pull in $1k just for working 2 sundays in a row. But monthly pay sucks the most - you can live ok for 3 weeks but there is always something wrong with the 4th week as stuff comes on sale or you need to buy something urgently. I actually saved more and demanded a 2 weekly pay period in this job as the store staff are paid weekly since some are casuals.

            My pay period ends on Sunday and I get paid the very next day. I get paid under the table, so that's why I'm able to get paid the day after the pay period ends. The check cashing store where I work simply gets to write it off as a business expense.

              Hmmm. They'd get to write it off either way. But be careful with that. Since it's under the table, they aren't paying workers comp, so if you get hurt on the job, you're screwed. Especially since you don't "have" a job there. And their liability insurance probably won't cover it if you hurt someone in the performance of your duties and they sue.

                Sunday morning at 07h00. The cheques are issued Wednesday afternoon, cashable at 00h01 Thursday. Every 2nd week.
                I enforce rules and regulations, not laws.
                Security Officers. The 1st First Responders.

                  So when is the USA going to catch up with the rest of the world and do away with Stone Age Cheques for payroll ?

                  My mate is a risk consultant with a retailer in the USA (aussie who married a yank sheila) and he says there was almost a strike when it was suggested in 1 off-shoot of the company they do away with cheques and make it direct deposit into the bank account. There was a stop work meeting for 2 hours and a strike was planned it this went ahead 2 years back. I guess it had to do with the insecurity of not being able to touch something with $$ and your name on it. Eventually this division went into direct payroll with the 3% cost savings passed onto the employees.

                    People want their paycheck. I have advocated Visa Payroll Cards for several firms, simply because its cheaper in the long run than printing and mailing checks out. Some employees do not have bank accounts. Especially in the security industry.

                    I remember one of my employers wanted to do Direct Deposit, but 80% of the company did not have and could not get a checking account due to bad credit. (Most banks require a 520 FICO/Beacon Score to open any account.)

                    So, he couldn't do direct deposit, in his eyes.

                      Our pay period ends on the 23rd of each month and we are paid on the last working day of said month.

                        I don't trust direct deposit, period.

                        Every place I've ever worked, without exception, has screwed up direct deposit. From a place with 1900 employees that lost two of my voided out checks in a row and then inexplicably switched to sending me paychecks halfway through my employment, to my current employer who didn't pay ANYONE who had direct deposit for a month and a half and blamed it on their bank...Turned out all the payroll stuff had (allegedly) been shredded and they were covering it up until they could rebuild the files.

                          Rick (my mate) told me that this off-shot group of a now defunct retailer formed a company credit union under the guidance of a bigger bank so the employees had onsite banking as many did not have bank accounts (as stated above) or used possum pelts for the rednecks. Where I worked during Y2K the company used Citibank so every staff member had to have a Citibank account but it was fee exempt and also came with a company assured $500.00 VISA Credit Card - for anyone on bad credit it was a choice of yes or no to it. It meant payroll went in a day earlier and everyone had an account manager for any issues and new employees were paid by me if their bank a/c details were wrong via cash.
