I truly believe everyone has a purpose in life thing is we have to find it ourselves. When you say "it's just a college job", does that mean that this is What you are doing to get you through college or security for a college?

Every now and then we need to "take inventory" on our lives, in all areas. Try to figure out What truly makes you happy in life, might be a lifestyle change or actually looking for a new job/career. There is a significant difference between waking up and saying "I have to go to work" and "I get to go to work", why can't work be fun. My dad used to say "a bad day off is better than a good day at work", I just can't live that way personally so I chose not to.

    All the best Bro.

You are absolutley right. I enjoy doing what I have done for the past 10 years. The only problem is keeping up with the younger troops! And sometimes, I'm just happy watching the youngs one do their thing! LOL! Variety is the spice of life. Part of the fun is finding what gives your life purpose. Then do that one thing.

I love my job, but then again it is only my college job.
This line of work is just like police work. Its hours of mind numbing boredom with moments of shear terror sprinkled in.

I can fully appreciate what you're feeling... after more than 15 years in my 'other job' I found myself quite disillusioned, I believe this is normal... what you do about it is up to you completely, me I took a different career direction and found myself in the Security Industry LOL

Our minds, perceptions of self & our life require constant reassessment... challenges help us to achieve that, some go back to school, whilst others change careers, move Interstate/abroad (travelling) OR take up a new hobby

If we don't move... we stagnate!

No matter what one does, others are affected by what one does. You may have smiled or said a kind word and changed the day for someone. An arrest you've made may have helped put someone on 'the right track'. Your presence may have caused someone to feel protected or changed someone's mind about what they were about to do. Whatever you do you accomplish something. Figuring out what that something is can be frustrating.

In my first shift working CPP with 1 company I was made walk a hotel corridor and was asked to count bricks for 2 hours. The reason was to see if I had the patience to follow an order and to keep the same due diligence for the 2 hour post (not to do an audit for the hotel). Perhaps do some industry reading, some training course or some specialised study on WHERE you would like to move to in the industry.

No......I've been working at this hotel for 26 years this past week (minus 2 years when I was temporarily sent to a sister hotel but was still paid by this one). Even after 26 years I find new things all the time!

Join the National Guard and get sent to Iraq. Plenty of thrills over there if that's what you want.

Does your Agency offer other assignments? Such as dive team, K9 or other specialized positions? That maybe just what you need.

Being a company owner for a number of years, I had to re-invent myself some months to find out what my purpose was rather than provide employment for people. Yes there are bad days and there are very bad days but then I found there are those memorable days including the day I assigned a good security officer the role of security for a model in our boutiques for 4 hours. He went out and got a haircut, a shave and made himself A1 (even more than usual) and thanked me for choosing him. She has since asked for him again for her next fashion show so all went well. Those days are few and far between but I think everyday you go home safe and sound is what your purpose is.
