A security guard fatally shot a man in northwest Dallas late Sunday because he believed the man was going to shoot him, authorities said.
Carlos Diaz-Sorto, 28, was taken to a hospital, where he died. Police did not release the name of the security guard.
The shooting happened about 11:30 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of a business complex in the 9900 block of Monroe Drive.
According to police, Mr. Diaz-Sorto was involved in a disturbance outside a nightclub, and shots were fired. One witness told police he was running because he thought Mr. Diaz-Sorto was going to hurt him.
A security guard tried to confront Mr. Diaz-Sorto, who had a handgun.
Mr. Diaz-Sorto ran and the security guard chased him, police said. ((The Security Guard chased the VICTIM and then Gunned him down))
"The guy turned and reached for his waist, and then [the security guard] shot and killed him," said Dallas police Sgt. Larry Lewis, a homicide division supervisor.
Police said the case would be referred to a grand jury.
Police did not recover a gun from Mr. Diaz-Sorto, and said it appeared that the weapon may have been picked up by someone else. They are investigating whether Mr. Diaz-Sorto is a gang member.
-----------------
The S/O wasn't arrested and read what I underlined (EVERY shooting, justified or not, cop/Security officer/citizen/whoever is refered to a Grand Jury). 99 times out of 100 a Cop saying a shooting by a citizen is being refered to a Grand Jury when the shooter isn't arrested at the scene, well, that's code for "we, the po-lease, think this here guy that got shot needed killin so we'ze just goin through the motions for appearance sake"
.
Even in this (I say apparently because I wasn't there) justified case, S/Os/private citizens in other states would face some heat it seems to me AND negative sounding press to boot. Even our panty-waist liberal media here in Texas thinks some people need killin!
I do love my state
