  • How we do thangs in Texas!

~EDIT : For fun, I will put some "translations" of how I think this article would appear in other states, the translations will be in double parenthesis (()).~

Guard kills man carrying gun in northwest Dallas ((anywhere else it would be "Security Guard kills unarmed man"))

28-year-old is fatally shot after reaching for his waist ((Security guard kills unarmed minority person for no reason))

10:26 PM CDT on Monday, September 3, 2007
By TANYA EISERER / The Dallas Morning News

A security guard fatally shot a man in northwest Dallas late Sunday because he believed the man was going to shoot him, authorities said.

Carlos Diaz-Sorto, 28, was taken to a hospital, where he died. Police did not release the name of the security guard.

The shooting happened about 11:30 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of a business complex in the 9900 block of Monroe Drive.

According to police, Mr. Diaz-Sorto was involved in a disturbance outside a nightclub, and shots were fired. One witness told police he was running because he thought Mr. Diaz-Sorto was going to hurt him.

A security guard tried to confront Mr. Diaz-Sorto, who had a handgun.

Mr. Diaz-Sorto ran and the security guard chased him, police said. ((The Security Guard chased the VICTIM and then Gunned him down))

"The guy turned and reached for his waist, and then [the security guard] shot and killed him," said Dallas police Sgt. Larry Lewis, a homicide division supervisor.

Police said the case would be referred to a grand jury.

Police did not recover a gun from Mr. Diaz-Sorto, and said it appeared that the weapon may have been picked up by someone else. They are investigating whether Mr. Diaz-Sorto is a gang member.

    -----------------

The S/O wasn't arrested and read what I underlined (EVERY shooting, justified or not, cop/Security officer/citizen/whoever is refered to a Grand Jury). 99 times out of 100 a Cop saying a shooting by a citizen is being refered to a Grand Jury when the shooter isn't arrested at the scene, well, that's code for "we, the po-lease, think this here guy that got shot needed killin so we'ze just goin through the motions for appearance sake" .

Even in this (I say apparently because I wasn't there) justified case, S/Os/private citizens in other states would face some heat it seems to me AND negative sounding press to boot. Even our panty-waist liberal media here in Texas thinks some people need killin!

I do love my state .

want to know something else that warped? I just picked up a rifle from a gun store in Houston. While waiting for my check I struck a conversation with the clerk about rifles chambered in .50BMG. He said that he (the chain of gunstores) can't keep them on the shelves for more than a few hours at a time.

Friday (the day before I was there) about 3 hours after they recieved a Cobb .50cal it was snatched up for 6 grand. And a few days before that they ran out of ammo in that caliber.

I'm afraid if Houston gets the Katrina treatment the place will become sniper city.

No, we TEXANS don't go all f*cktarded when disaster strikes like some of our neighbors do. No worries about sniper city. I had more concerns about the 'victims' they sent here from LA. Crime rates jumpin up all over TX when a whole bunch of out-of-state faces show up? Seems like a little more than coincidence to me.

Texas is a big state. You need to reach farther sometimes.
Here in Arizona we have had a large selling of .50 BMG as well. I go to the long range about once a week and have seen more 50's lately than before. It's nice living only a mile away from a 2k yard range. Luckily they shoot AWAY from my house.

You're going to see a large swell in .50 BMG, ARs, and other "assault rifles" due to the plethora of assault rifle bans that were attempted in Congress and by several states after the Democrats were elected into Congress.

I'm gonna open up a political war, but so what. The Democrats were elected to terminate the war, and put pressure on Bush. Unfortunately, they caved in on that... (Where's that No Funding Without Time Table now?) But they DID throw up a lot of the same stuff they always throw up with a Democrat heavy congress...

              Son of Assault Weapons Ban.

This freaked a lot of paranoid people at AR15.com out, and ARFCOM went on a collective buying spree. People are praying to God that they'll be able to buy an AR or a Barrett and it'll be grandfathered in to any Dem AWB that passes.

Granted, nobody's happy with Congress right now, nor are they with the White House, so AWBs aren't gonna go over well, and they know it.

They were put in there to do a job (End the War), not to do other things that a lot of the people who don't want Bush 2.0 do not want.

For the record, I am a Social Democrat who is liberally conservative, in other words, the kind of guy who went of style during the first Regan era. They can BOTH leave people, all people, the hell alone and make sure the trains run on time and I'll be happy.

                Well said.

I lean a little right but am close to center. If they try this awb again I think there will be a good backlash. I don't think the idiots understand that people from BOTH parties are getting sick of them. Also hunting and recreational shooting has nothing to do with politics. I'm just waiting for them to say you have to have a tax stamp to buy pellets for your pellet gun. (reference to the tax stamp deal during prohibition in relation to automatics).

AH that makes soooo much sense, since i noticed that atlamtic firearms.com is selling like hotcakes. Which reminds me, I need to pick up some more AK mags.

When will these people get it through their granite skulls that its the ILLEGAL guns that are doing the crimes>?

If HCI has their way, that statement will be doubly true. Since all firearms will be illegal, all illegal firearm users will be committing crimes.

                    i.e. possession of a firearm.

Do you have a FFL, or are you having Atlantic ship the weapon to your local FFL, or are you close enough to a store to buy regularly?

If you've got an FFL yourself, or know a FFL who won't rape you on transfer fees, I would also look at places like gunbroker.com, etc. The guys on there know that the AR is suddenly not worth 5k.

i think there would be such an uproar, i HIGHLY doubt that could ever happen. the zanies would think Animal Farm just came to pass, and every law abiding gun owner in the states would feel so betrayed, so let down- wow I can't even think what they would do if the government actually tried to ban all firearms alltogether here

like most great Washington ideas, it would be unenforceable. the UK has a weapons ban and they have a higher gun crime rate than many western countries that dont have that ban.
