SWAT Team Shoots Man 68 Times

Came across this on another forum so I don't know if it has been posted here before... It's true according to Urban Legends site snopes.com

As reported earlier this week, some dirtbag who got pulled over in a routine traffic stop in Florida ended up "executing" the deputy who stopped him. The deputy was shot eight times, including once behind his right ear at close range.. Another deputy was wounded and a police dog killed.

A statewide manhunt ensued. The low-life was found hiding in a wooded area with his gun. SWAT team officers fired and hit the guy 68 times.

Now here's the kicker: Naturally, the media asked why they shot him 68 times.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, told the Orlando Sentinel, "That's all the bullets we had."

LOl LOL thats all the bullets we had lol amen but you know them liberals they gotta be talking about that poor man he didnt deserve that blah blah blah i want to work for that sheriff when i get my degree, he had some guts thats for sure

i've seen incidents like this a lot in the media. Typically in an incident you have multiple officers, lets say 6 all drawn on a perp. Perp makes a threatening move, and one officer fires. Often this will cause any other officers in the area to engage the threat also. Now if they're shooting to stop and the perp is jerking all over the place, you have half a dozen officers nailing away on him.

One last thought. I've heard of instances where during a debrief, an officer will remember firing 3 shots and his mag is down by 10 rounds. I'm guessing stress can do that. Anyone know more about this?

yea well if i was there and 10 other officers i would still fire also cuz you never know if the guy next to will hesatate i am sure alot of them think that

Yes. Your brain can have auditory and visual exclusions under high stress. Its a big thing taught in Defensive Tactics and Firearms. There was an officer in Seattle not too long ago... I cant remember the story exactly (someone please correct me if you know better), but I think a mentally ill person was walking down the street with a sword. It came down to the officer needing to engage the suspect. The officer said he fired two rounds and the suspect went down. Well, when the investigators arrived on scene they found 7-9 shell casings on the ground.

The officer, to this day, will tell you he fired 2 rounds.

Another officer had someone draw a gun on him and he said the only thing he could think was "Oh my God, someone should shoot this guy" and next thing he knew the guy was shot in the chest and on the ground. Apparently it took him a moment to realize that his training kicked in, he drew his weapon, and took out the suspect.

When you get into a high stress situation, your brain will focus directly on the threat, causing tunnel vision. This tunnel vision dials in on the suspect or situation at hand and will fade your other senses such as smell, taste, feel, etc... Have you ever been doing something then realized you are cut? Ever been watching something important on TV only to realize someone's been talking to you? That's because your brain has chosen to dial out your other senses so you can focus on what seems to be more important.

When I was in the academy, one of our instructors told us about an officer who was in a shootout with a suspect and when other officers arrived on scene, they found the officer crouched behind his patrol unit frantically field-stripping his weapon and crying saying that his gun wouldn't shoot. The officers looked up at the suspect lying on the ground dead and shell casings all-around the officers trunk of his patrol car. The officer never realized he had discharged his whole magazine. stress and fear can make you mind play some serious tricks on you.

I've drawn down on someone just once. and come to think of it- it wasn't a conscious thought. I was working a parking lot when I saw 2 grown men wrestling half out of a blue sedan. Suddenly one of them gets free, dives into the car and comes back with a small silvered Baby Browning and shoves it in the other guy's face.

When the guy heard and saw what I was doing, he threw that piece of plastic on the ground and both hands in the air and I'll never forget what he said," Yo dawg We Playin' We PLAYIN!" It was a toy gun, but they were struggling like it was quite a fight. Middle of a buisness parking lot.

This is completely true. If you are trained to fight, you will fight. If you trained to run you will run. If are not trained at all, you will most likely end up in the fetal position in a world of hurt.

I live one county over from where this took place. These are some exceptional police officers we are talking about. They are also Florida "Good ol Boys" and the last thing you want to do is piss them off! The scum bag in question got exactly what he deserved. This should be the outcome of EVERY Police Officer shooting. Period.

That must happen to beer drinkers also. Seems like every drunk only remembers the first two beers officer he/she drank yet 12 empties fall out of the car when the door opens.
