I'm aware the financial rewards are obscene ($600+ USD per day), but the risk to yourself working unarmed in such an environment defies a dollar value IMHO

When I played over there for the invasion, I had a 250,000 life insurance policy.. and my thoughts on that.. Why? I wont get to enjoy it!

Its horrible over there. Hot as hell, smells funny, people are not the greatest to say the least and dont care for you either. IMO, I dont care what the pay is and for how long, I have no interest in every going back!

You know, I am genuinely interested in working in Iraq or Afghanistan. Does anyone have a list of employers that are hiring for private security over there? Also, is that $600/day figure estimated, or can anyone affirm KBR's actual salary?

I'm a young student with tons of student loan debt, no wife or kids, and a strong desire to travel - this sounds like a great opportunity.

I didn't estimate that figure, I got it from an article relating to a former USMC sergeant now working as a security contractor providing armed escort duties for convoys in Iraq (that is also the figure paid to the now dead Blackwater Security Personnel killed in Fallujah in '04)... at this point I should also point out many Armed Forces personnel have quit (or not extended their service) and signed up with Security Providers working in Iraq due to the significant pay differences

I have read reports where that figure is actually higher ($1,500 USD) being paid to former SAS/SASR soldiers employed by AKE Limited, more details @ The Age

Should you be interested, I came upon this list of companies providing security work in that area and while the list is not fully inclusive you may find it helpful... details HERE
