Wow, that sure would be nice to have whouldn't it. I love it when someone reports an incident, say a car in the parking lot gets banged up, and asks if we saw anything on our monitors. I just point to the blurred, dark image on the screen and ask "What do you think?". Our VCRs are old as heck and the tapes have be reused so many times that watching them is a waste of time.

At the very least, it sounds like your supervisor needs to requisition new VHS tapes and a VHS head cleaner for the VCR player. If possible, entirely new VHS players as well.

Can't you make complaints like...to the mall supervisor.LOL I used to work in a mall was funny as hell.

1rst.we had 4 cameras located in the mall.The monitor was in a janitor closet.
2.My ''security office'' was another closet where they store brooms and thing like this.
3.The cameras werent actualy recording it's just to watch on the spot.
4.I was alone with a radio and my backup wasnt a security officer It was a old man who was in charge of the slot machines (he was like 90)

One day I came to work and two police officers fully geared were waiting for me.They asked me if I was the officer in charge there.I said yes sir.They told me a guy used the payphones in my mall to make a bomb threat but for the mall on the opposite of mine.So they asked me if I had any cameras overlooking the payphones.When I showed them the 15 inch grey monitor in a closet I was so..feeling unprofessional.I told them I am doing what I can with what they are giving me.They laughed and nodded.They told me its common buisness to see those kind of security system and that we shouldnt even work with this but eh...Now on my contract we got really State of the art control centers.With touch screens cameras..we got like 20-30 flat screen color cameras.We got over 200 cameras all over the place and card readers etc.Its a school but its more monitored then a army base.


On the other hand the mall was so much more dangerous with all the freaks who could get in and out freely.I couldnt control acces so eh.

I am in a liberal county, and I am caught both ways!

One end, I get those that are victims of a crime, wanting a copy of something that does not exist, then I have the liberals on the other end, who claim its an invasion of their privacy, even though its private property.

To add to the mess, my departments budget can not afford such lovely devices, and my corporate HQ has no problem forking over the systems (under one condition), which is that the systems run to their office first, then back to mine if at all. Just what my people need.. To be treated like they cant be trusted, no thanks!

My center (office) has video, and we burn onto a hard drive, but as we get a little here and there, we put up our own. Sometimes its nice when the higher end stores close up, and leave fixtures behind.. We get first dibs, and come across some nice video equipment (the stuff people throw away!).

I will never understand people who have an expectation of privacy in public. When I want "privacy" I usually stay at "home".
