  • private security and police

Hi I am new here and thought i would ask a question. I work armed security in Oklahoma in a gang infested low income housing complex. we get along with the police great. They seem to trust us and even use us for backup when serving warrants when their backup is too far away. I was just wondering if any other people around the country have this relationship with their local PD

You'll find that everyone's experiences tend to differ greatly. Some of it really depends on the type of security you work and the exposure to the community that you have. In my most recent position, I was a security officer for a large public school district. Our direct supervisor was the school resource liason officer for the local police department, so we worked extremely well with the police and fire departments.

Our security patrol officers even have police callsigns that they use over the radio; they sign in and out of the police channel when on duty. The police would commonly call us to assist them on issues with juveniles that they contacted out in the community. When we've had school shooting scares, our security officers have cleared school buildings with the police "go teams."

In the past, I've worked loss prevention and also had good experiences when the local police would respond to our store. I suppose a lot of it is in how you present yourself and the professional work ethic that you show. A lot can be determined about someone during that first impression. If an officer doesn't like what they see, they probably won't extend the same courtesy.

Local PD won't respond to calls at our property unless WE call them. If Joe Blow calls 911... they call us. (large theme park)

We here at the hospital have a great relationship with all three police depts. on the island. the only one that are a little hard to deal with is the State Troopers. Its not that we have ever had a bad experience with them they just aren't as outgoing and friendly as local police, but I have a feeling that is how it is everywhere.

We have a great working relationship with the local police. But our situation is a special one since we have the police on-site.

In previous jobs, I have found the key to getting along with the cops is not to call for every little thing and to present a squared away image.

Yep If someone calls 911 from our site.911 calls us back to verify.Erm they can ask us for help searching the buildings.Actualy if they go by themselves they will surely get lost and then call 911 for a search team.
