This is one of those things where there is no right answer. It depends on the corporate culture, the location of the site and the mission of the security department. I have no problem with a bouncer having a beard. An EP officer protecting a pop star or an actor is going to have a goatee to blend in. On the other hand, if I walk into the Dewey, Cheatum and Howe Investment Firm to drop off my lottery winnings, I expect short hair, pressed suits and no facial hair.
It is also a generational thing. American society as a whole has been influenced by the music industry and IT worker "slacker" look. And let's face it - if you want to keep your entry level workers for more than a month at your low wage, no benefit warm body co., you're probably going to ease up on the grooming standard, whether it is good policy or not. (And you can blame the movie "Friday" for the whole untucked shirt thing. Uggghhh.)

I've done posts where I started bring and wearing my own dust-masks after the first day. IMO the company of course should've provided all that and I would've made a fuss but it was a very temp gig. My point is a SO never knows where he is gonna post AND should always be ready to tough it out.
You don't want a team of wise guys to run a SO off his post by kicking up a little dust upwind.
So I vote no beards that keep you from wearing at least a basic white "dunce cap" dust mask.

Allowing all sorts of lawlessness and nonsense, then trying to silence everyone about it by name calling with "bigotry" etc is one of the worst diseases the USA has right now.Last edited by Squid; 08-31-2017, 05:47 AM.

Putting on a G-suit, or wet suit? Gotta have the dumb knife. Everyone else in Boot Camp checks any outside knifes at the door? Sorry Drill Sargent, I made up a religion that says I get to keep MY knife.

I'll be around more frequently now.
As as far as beards, I've been in a plain clothes capacity the past 5 years and haven't really had any uniform standards except for no tank tops or sandals. Back in a uniform, I wear my beard trimmed low and "neat looking". It's funny, as just about every cop I see on shift is wearing a beard now.Sergeant Phil Esterhaus: "Hey, let's be careful out there.."
