I just wanted to say I'm leaving Guardsmark. I'm moving from my $9.40 per hour work at Kodak to an $11.00 per hour position with Securitas. It will be on a college campus which should prove interesting. After over 6 years with Guardsmark it will be kind of strange to move on but I'm looking forward to my new job. In fact this Monday will be my last day here and then Tuesday I'm in a different uniform.

I've worked for Securitas. I liked it better than Guardsmark. They don't accept as many "value-added" service requests from a client due to increased liability. Their military uniforms are nice too. Keep us posted.Security: Freedom from fear; danger; safe; a feeling of well-being. (Webster's)

I stand as an ordinary citizen. I have no right to; detain, interrogate or otherwise interfere with your personal property-... basically all that means is I'm a cop."-Officer Ernie

I really can't say that I've had to do many non-security related tasks at my current post, mainly because our regular responsiblities keep us pretty busy. My biggest gripe has been listening to the nonsense about how elite they are and how great the company owner is. Don't tell your employees that your company is hitting record profits, approaching a billion in revenue and then give a 10 cent raise after two years.

Seriously, though. I see no reason to give a security person a gun (some states consider air pistols guns) and tell them to go attempt to damage client property. What if you miss and take out a skylight? Do I have to pay that? Does the client? Do you? Some Kind of Commando Leader

I don't want anybody to get me wrong. I'd work for Guardsmark again if they had the right account and decent pay. I liked the place I was at but we had decided to move for a variety of reasons and Guardsmark didn't have an opening where I was moving to.
It is the propaganda that the company constantly feeds me that I find irritating. For any company to tell me that I'm highly trained when I know training was minimal is insulting. Still I'll probably hear the same things with any company.
So far from what I've seen the two companies seem comparable. It all depends on which account that your at. I think it will be interesting to work for another company and I'm glad I didn't have to take a lobby position. I did that for my first 3 years at Guardsmark and I really didn't want to do that again.
