  • Changing to Securitas

I just wanted to say I'm leaving Guardsmark. I'm moving from my $9.40 per hour work at Kodak to an $11.00 per hour position with Securitas. It will be on a college campus which should prove interesting. After over 6 years with Guardsmark it will be kind of strange to move on but I'm looking forward to my new job. In fact this Monday will be my last day here and then Tuesday I'm in a different uniform.

Okay so your in Rochester. I am sure Securitas has numerous other accounts
Let the field supervisior know your are willing to work at other posts and
accounts, or be on call to fill in at an emergency detail.

If he is a good guy and a position opens up for an Account Manager
he may put in a good word for you

At the branch office, meet with H/R, the operations manager, branch manager and
if your goals are to move on up that is good.

      Six years at Guardsmark
is a life time in this Industry

      Dust off your resume

From manufacturing to college campus will be nothing but be
      a plus.

Securitas wants those who want to move on up

      Welcome to the Securitas family.

I've worked for Securitas. I liked it better than Guardsmark. They don't accept as many "value-added" service requests from a client due to increased liability. Their military uniforms are nice too. Keep us posted.

If your talking about services nonessential to security that depends on the post, we do a few. Marking parking spaces with reserved and numbers, in my opinion this should be done by facilities.

Actually, I'm talking about silly tasks like inspecting rodent traps, hosing down run-off matter in a waste treatment facility, taking corpses down to the morgue and sliding them in the coolers....need I go on?

Well every post I have been on, always had silly things like that

At a mall I worked at, after midnight we shot birds who got in the food courts with an issued BB gun

I draw the line on ridiculous non-security tasks like that. That's why I left Guardsmark.

I really can't say that I've had to do many non-security related tasks at my current post, mainly because our regular responsiblities keep us pretty busy. My biggest gripe has been listening to the nonsense about how elite they are and how great the company owner is. Don't tell your employees that your company is hitting record profits, approaching a billion in revenue and then give a 10 cent raise after two years.

I think you could get in trouble doing that, actually, since you're not a licensed pest control operator.

Seriously, though. I see no reason to give a security person a gun (some states consider air pistols guns) and tell them to go attempt to damage client property. What if you miss and take out a skylight? Do I have to pay that? Does the client? Do you?

Exactly. He's lost the pulse on his company, IMO.

I don't want anybody to get me wrong. I'd work for Guardsmark again if they had the right account and decent pay. I liked the place I was at but we had decided to move for a variety of reasons and Guardsmark didn't have an opening where I was moving to.
It is the propaganda that the company constantly feeds me that I find irritating. For any company to tell me that I'm highly trained when I know training was minimal is insulting. Still I'll probably hear the same things with any company.
So far from what I've seen the two companies seem comparable. It all depends on which account that your at. I think it will be interesting to work for another company and I'm glad I didn't have to take a lobby position. I did that for my first 3 years at Guardsmark and I really didn't want to do that again.

Compared to some guard companies, you are highly trained. They just didn't say in what.
