Just a reminder from this 57 year old Goat. Ou profession is a 24 hour 7 day
work a week. Unlike a factory that manufactures paper clips we never shut
down. I have been working some eratic hours of late. I got home and
laid down for what I thought was a brief nap. Three hours later my wife
is trying to wake me My wife told me I was in such a deep sleep that
for brief moment she thought I was not breathing. She told me that
it took several moment for me to wake up. My wife almost called the
police for fear I could not be woken up

Moral of the story. When the sand man and old man sleep comes along, pay attention to
    his warning signs. Get sleep.

Oh yes. We are going out in a short while to visit friends.
I think I will let my wife drive. I have heard enough horror stories
about truck drivers falling asleep at the wheel
It seems to happen a lot here in the Boston area.
Some truck driver has been on the road for hours.
Not familiar with our Interstates and nods off to sleep causing
    a horrific accident
The Interstate shuts down for hours, causing a real bad
traffic jam as the police try to clean up the scene of the
    accident.

I'm trying to go one weekend (Fridays & Saturdays for me) without being paged by one of the hotels at least once. It is a rare event.

Bovine Feces on that. I work my 42 hours a week and MAYBE an extra shift once or twice a month depending on who's going on vacation. I do my 12 hours and go the heck home. If you are working 24/7 you are doing something wrong.

            Sleep

In this industry, the slogan should be "Thank God it's Friday, only two more days 'til Monday"

I once worked 3 24hr shifts at FD. I also worked a 24hr OT shift so one of those was 48hrs straight. I worked a 12hr OT so another was a 36 hr straight.

This is besides the security on the side.

Talk about running in Zombie mode. I drove thru a red light and stopped at a green one. That decided the fact that no more OT or security for a few days.

Oh yeah this is at age 50+.

                    Mr. Security:
Do you suffer from Apnea? Ask your MD about a sleep study.

I aksed my Doctor about this. She says little except this
"You ain't a kid anymore. You cannot work 36 hours in a 48 hours"

She also threatened to beat me up if I don't get more sleep.
And she can do it too

Reminds me of a classic line from the comedian/actor W.C. Fields:

Man: I'm so tired and I can't get to sleep!
                      WC: What's the problem?
                      Man: I suffer from insomnia.
WC: That's too bad. I know a good cure for that.
                      Man: Really?! What is it??
                      WC: Get plenty of sleep.
Man: Punches WC in the nose.
Security: Freedom from fear; danger; safe; a feeling of well-being. (Webster's)
