  • Light Weight BDU's

    Hi

Our current uniform trousers are what you people call "BDU's". We have been wearing the same ones as issued to the N.S.W. Police over here, down under. Problem is they fade far to quickly, only come with oversized 2.25" belt loops and have elastic in the cuff of the legs.

I have recently been asked by my boss to find something better, so I have gone internationally as we just have nothing here.

I'v recently tried the 5.11 Tactical TDU Pants. Whilst these were great in regards to fit and pockets etc these were just far to heavy for our extremely hot and humid climate. I have found that most BDU's are around the 7-7.5oz mark.

What I'm looking for is the following:-

1.) Uniform trousers/pants in black that are lightweight, have cargo pockets on both legs big enough to fit a normal set of Hatch gloves in.
2.) Someone that will deal with us even tho we are "down under".

If you have any recommendations, links or other information please feel free to let me know. I'd certainly appreciate any help at all.

Thanks in advance for your help

Would you prefer me to use the dog, the Glock, the baton or the O.C. spray? It's your health insurance so you decide. Alternatively there is always the handcuffs, followed by the Police with the court house preceeding rapidly after. Now which service would you like me to utilise

Hey there... Have you considered the Streetgear line of trousers made by Blauer? They're a little on the spendy side, but they're high quality. They look like standard uniform trousers, but with cargo pockets added on the legs. Something to consider, at least.

Yes I'd already had a look at Blauer, only that the pants you speak of they claim are 6.5oz, and their other models are around the 15oz . These are just far to heavy for us to wear in our tropical climate. We really don't have a winter so to speak of over here. The coldest day we might have may be 21 degrees celcius, not sure what that is in your scales tho? We are in spring at present and the days have already been record breakers with temperatures hitting 39 degree celcius already. Plus we have extreme humidity due to us being on the coast near the ocean.

I've been looking at the Elbeco Tex Trop trousers with cargo pockets. Does anyone have any feedback on these?

Thanks once again for the feedback

21C is room temperature, around 70F.

        40C is just over 100F.

I know a guy who swears by Elbeco. What about the ACU-like pants that TruSpec is making, I forget the name of them, I think its TRU. Basically "ACU for LE," in colors other than ARPAT.

I've looked on the TruSpec website prior to making the topic and could only see 7oz+ weight trousers. If you have found other information please feel free to let me know etc as I'm very interested.

If any of you people follow "Champ Cars", we have the latest round here at Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast right now. Typically we have a blistering hot day, with massive thunder storms in the afternoon.

Alas, I think that's what people over in the sandbox ARE wearing. I haven't heard of pants that a 5 oz, honestly.

BDUs are usually made heavy to take the wear and tear either military or tactical teams put them thru.

NA is correct about what is worn in the Sand Box. It is standard US Military gear.

You might check to see what your military wears. I am sure that they will be wearing the lightest yet ruggudest they deem needed.

I definately liked the DCU's I was issued when I went over.. They are light as heck!!!

The BDU's however, come in whats called "summer" or "winter" versions as well. THe summers were thinner, while the winters felt more wool like. Also, summer BDU's hold starch alot better...LOL!

DCU's, I haven't heard of these any further information etc?

N.A. Corbier & ACP01:- I'm still looking around, but you folks are right there doesn't appear to be anything lighter than about 6.5oz. Our military uses cotton drill, which isn't as heavy as you people have, but it fades terribly quick.

I'm still looking around tho, the biggest headache is that most U.S. based companies won't even reply to my emails or refuse to deal with overseas companies. I'm still liking the Elbeco Tex Trop cargo's, I just hope they return my email soon.

Thanks once again tho for the comments and help.
