Has anyone on here heard of Mill city security or statewide or Midwest protection? Everyone says stay away from statewide but I haven't heard much about the other two.

    MN Security Companies

Do you want to work specifically for contract security company? Would you consider a security job with a hospital, college, or university? Usually the more desirable jobs pay better, but they are also more competitive. I have known a number of people that work at, or have worked at, Deco Security and are pretty favorable.

Companies that have long term, established contracts for large businesses or government agencies would be fairly desirable. For example, the companies that protect the nuclear generating plants in Monticello and Prairie Island, would be pretty stable. Also, whatever company that currently has the US Postal Service contract(s) locally might be worth looking at.

It is going to depend at lot on what your qualifications are. Will this be your first security job? What do you have that makes you a viable candidate? While some may argue whether it is truly a security guard/officer job, the guys and gals that are in the armored trucks earn their pay. They don't start out very high, but they certainly do earn their money. Also, I really doubt that the people willing and able to staff armored vehicles are ever lacking for work. I see those vehicles all over the Twin Cities. I have to imagine that Brinks, Dunbar, Loomis, Rochester Armored Car, Granite City, etc. need new employees fairly often.

If it helps, here are some URLs for Minnesota licensed protective agents and private detectives. https://dps.mn.gov/entity/pdb/Docume...agent-list.pdf https://dps.mn.gov/entity/pdb/Docume...ctive-List.pdf Some are national/international companies, but others are literally one man operations that may hire extra help occasionally for funeral escorts, etc. You might find the lists helpful because they have contact information.

      Statewide

Stay away from Statewide, the other two are good. Statewide has issues with paying their people. If you look through the MN PDB meeting minutes, you will find plenty about Statewide. https://dps.mn.gov/entity/pdb/board-...ry-28-2011.pdf

Here are the results when you do a civil search on the owner: Troy Nadeau

        Wow, that's alot!

It seems like Statewide has a bad rep alright! But anyone on this forum already knew that. Yes nuclear security is a very stable place to be. I have worked at both P.I. and Monticello power stations and the pay and full benefits are outstanding.

Just how good are they? Are we talking $20 an hour, $25, $30 an hour? Do they have family health insurance and dental? What about the pension? Is it a defined benefit pension or defined contribution pension?

We are also USP #1 union, full dental & eye insurance. It's lightyears ahead of any other security gig in minnesota. And the weapons training? that's the best part!

A guy I work with left there to come to our place. He did say, however, that it was 12 hour shift that rotated pretty often. Does it still rotate from days to night every week?

What company are you with? To answer your question, we are now seniority based, straight days or nights. Strong union, ya baby!

Statewide, as everyone else has said, stay away.

Midwest seems to have some solid people working for them. We see them contracted by out state sheriff departmenmts to sit on the jail inmates from time to time at my hospital. They seem to be a good group. Mill City? I used to work with the owner of Mill City many years ago for On Guard Security and Wolf Protection. He was a great guy to work with back then, but I haven't had any contact with him in a long time.

My advice, find a proprietary or "in-house" gig. Usually, the pay and benefits are wwwaaayyyy better.
                    Apparently a HUGE cop wannabe...

Oh, also, HCMC may be hiring soon. $24.85 per hour at the top for officer wage (for now), MEIDCA, Delta Dental through the union, and PERA Correctional Officer pension plan.

Watch on www.hcmc.org under employment, the job title is "Protection Officer."
