Agreed. Accused of being a wannabe too. The good thing is that he will use his personal experience in the performance of his duties as a LEO. He knows what it's like to be falsely accused, have your life turned inside out, and suffer public humiliation.

In his case, the FBI was so convinced "they had their man" that they kept trying to push a square block through the round evidence hole. This is why it's best to always have an attorney present before answering ANY questions from LE. Don't buy that old line: "If you're innocent, you have nothing to worry about."

Tell that to the innocent people who have only recently been released from prison due to the advances in DNA science/forensics evidence. "Hey pal. Sorry about that decade we just took from your life. No hard feelings, right?"

It sounds like this thanks is LONG overdue. How unfortunate that Richard

Jewell had to undergo such ridicule for performing his duties well.

Atlanta Governor Perdue is to present an award of commendation to Richard Jewell, who detected bomb devices at the Olympics there on July 27, 1996. Jewell was wrongly implicated as the suspect who planted the devices after discovering them and was defamed by the media for such. He currently works for the Meriwether County Sheriff's Office.
