Solution to silly problem...any advice?

This is going to sound like sort of a silly problem but has anybody here had a problem with "shirt puff"? (Where your uniform shirt ends up slipping out above the waist enough to blouse out) I find that with constant movement and walking, my shirt starts coming untucked some...even though the trousers are fit properly. I know it sounds silly and lazy, but I get tired of tucking my shirt back in. Anybody reccomend a solution or product for this?

I always bloused my shirt out a little, so there was some freedom of movement. It also depends on what brand of shirt your wearing. Many police shirts are cut for body armor, which is why your shirt is puffing out, to accomodate the extra room required to wear an armor carrier.

A good pair of trousers usually has a rubber-like band around the waist to minimize that problem. Duty suspenders are helpful to.

I wear leg straps that wrap around my foot and have found these to be the best. You can order them from Quartermaster. The hidden tailor which is common does not work as well and it smells bad too. I have also tried the leg straps the clip on your socks and while they are very effective I found that they cut up my legs pretty bad due to the irritation . I should tell you that both types of straps are adjustible to accomadate body armor and the like. Quartermaster sells all three types too.

Is your shirt not properly tailored? Whenever I purchase a uniform shirt, I spend a few extra bucks to have it tailored to fit me properly. Some of our officers use the "Hidden Tailor Belt", but I never liked them as it's similar to rubber band squeezing on your waist. I guess it also depends on the type of uniform pants you wear... I wear the Elbeco tactical twill that has the rubberized "comfort grip" in the waist that helps keep the shirt tucked in.

To be frank and honest, none of my uniform components are tailored. My department buys the Quartermaster Law Pro uniforms, which are the cheapest low grade uniforms you can buy. The company has cut back on the budgets for all departments. I got so tired of the cheap polyester uniform pants that I spent $120.00 of my own money to get some Dickies work uniform pants...which fit better and are made of a higher quality fabric blend. Now to be fair to the company, they do dry clean and press the uniforms at no cost to me. They also used to give us a $100 credit towards uniform footwear, although this year they turned down my reimbursement request for the cost of my duty boots.

I wont' complain about it too much. I'd rather spend a little of my own cash and have better quality clothes to wear to work. That's not a bad idea...I guess I could see how much a tailor would charge to modify the shirts.

I don't know. I've worn Law Pro 100% Poly before, and never really had a problem with it. Note, of course, that I did have my shirts tailored, and that the pants DID wear like iron.

I've worn everything from Horace Small to Fleichmeyer or whatever its called, and all in all, as long as they're fitted correctly, there usually isn't a problem for me in it - expensive or not.

Streichers charged $6.00 per uniform shirt if my memory is correct. It's alot cheaper than most people think... cheaper than I thought it would be.
