    Bigdog,

The best way to search a person for anything, not just a hidden handcuff key, is the grasping hand technique. This not a technique I can easily describe in writing, but maybe someone who knows the technique in your neck of the woods can show you.

The most common places crooks hide handcuff keys are in the shoes, the cuff of their pants legs, in their mouth, the watch pocket (sometimes called the change pocket) of their pants, and up their butt. Use your imagination and you can think of several more in addition to the places you already mentioned, but they are going to be someplace they can reach with their hands cuffed behind their backs.

I've found them taped to the groin, inner most part of the buttock and under the tongue, and still able to speak.
Like you said histfan71, just let your imagination run wild. If you don't think it can be hidden there, it probably can.
      Enjoy the day,
      Bill

You could always have someone (that you know will let you out and won't laugh too long) put the cuffs on you and then see where all you could get to.

Remember the collar stays? One of our Air Force instructors demonstrated how easy it was to slip ratchet a handcuff not double locked. He also used a modified ball-point pen refill and a paper clip that he fashioned in seconds with his bare hands.

All true, and we must remember that people that do things they may be cuffed for will sometimes get actual cuffs to see what all they can use to get them off with.
