My Kingdom for a PEN !!!

Security 101 ........... always carry 2 pens with you and perhaps a 3rd if your mate forgets to bring one as well.

Just curious as to what preferred Pens you all like to carry for work. I have carried a Fischer Space Pen since 1994 but also have carried a BIC 4 colour pen (BLUE / BLACK / GREEN / RED - not sure if they are sold outside Australia) when I have been auditing to make entries in site log books. I still carry 2 pens as a creature of habit and know that I have a mobile stationery cabinet in my work bag for when the needs arise.

I carry a Fisher Space Pen in my pocket everywhere I go, whether at work or not. I've needed it a million times more than my flashlight I also carry, and a billion times more than my concealed pistol du jour. Best work pens I've ever found and carried are Pilot G-2 07 ones.

OMG you two are true stationary aficionados!

I usually carry one of those nice Uni-ball pens from Mitsubishi (water/fade proof), though I also tend to pick up those nice ball point pens they often sell at the checkouts for various charities, additionally my work bag/glove box are full of a varied assortment of biros/pens & markers... perhaps I have a stationary fetish too? LOL

A Fisher Space Pen eh? I best be checking one of these out!

NASA used them for the Astronauts to write upside down, wet surface and they never fail. I bought mine from Johnson Space Centre in Houston when I went for a tour - bloody legendary pens. Reminds me of Seinfeld - "Take the pen, Jerry - go on .............. take the pen". About $60.00 AUD but when I worked the buses of a night shift (the bloody books would end up getting wet so I had a mess of wet pages when it rained). This pen would write on the pen pages until I could blot them dry.

Less of a stationary thing and more of a 'tried and true' thing. I learned fast which pens work and which don't while writing traffic tickets at -30* and colder- and that there was a reason that all of the department-supplied pens were Pilot G-2s.

The Space Pen was $13 at the local AAFES, and is truly a good bargain, being about 3" long closed with no sharp ends or edges.

Okay, I know a nice pen is a great tool. But I am cheap. I usually use what ever is on sale, though I usually stick with Bic retractables. I am hesitant to use an expensive pen as I am always lending a pen out when I leave work and usually forget about it the next time I see the officer.

1 Precise V5, have sworn by them since highschool
2 Pilot G-2 07s, 1 red, 1 black
2 of each of the above in my brief case - 6 total
1 bag of cheepies in my car
1 bag of cheepies at my desk

But then again I also keep 5 flash lights and enough tools to make any wannabe MacGuyver drool.

It still amazes me how any meatheads will come to a remote post without carry a pen or 2 pens and a notebook ? We have a store expansion for our 2nd biggest boutique which is due out next week. Our facilities mgr hired 2 S/O's without telling me and on Day 1 (yesterday) I met the S/O's and briefed them on duties, breaks and tasks. They were then asked to record all incidents and site movements for a shift report. #1 asked me if I had a pen and paper for him to use to record what I wanted. Needless to say I have new officers with pens and occurrence books onsite now.

To prevent strangers from walking around in the administration area of the hotel the application forms were moved to outside the security office a few years ago. What amazes me is the number of people that walk into the hotel asking to fill out an employment application, then ask to borrow a pen. These applications usually end up in my special "round" file

Okay... what happened to SO #2 what did they do wrong?

If I ever forget to 'gear up' for a shift with a pen... I can always raid one from the glove box OR locate one in my 'shift' backpack

BTW how come your Facilities Manager hired 2 SOs without first your knowledge & secondly, your input to the hiring/interview process?

I use Cross pens directly from their Security-Law Enforcement section. wouldnt go back to Bic.

Maelstrom - I asked the same question mate !! He claims he never knew I also cover ALL security for the company (duh - I have been here for almost 2 years). NSW S.I.R. is cracking down on people who are on Master Licences but with NO security qualifications - so he was removed by me. #2 guard never spoke to me or said a word. I always take down a folder with pens, paper, contact details, spare pre-paid mobile and SOP's for them to understand and review but this really p`eed me off.
