  • OC Foam Suggesstions

This is my first post but it is what drawed me to the site.

I live in delaware in the city. I want to get a oc foam or whatever is recommended. This is not for my job as I am only a LPA and techincally not even supposed to touch people, but it is for my own safety. I would rather go to jail and get fired but be alive then other outcomes. I was leaning towards a foam as I may be using inside due to the nature of my job(avoided if at all possible but you cannot prevent everything).

So basically I am looking for a concealable non lethal option to save my life in a worst case scenario where I have to get away either for my job or outside (being "jumped" etc). Any specific suggestions?

If this is truly for personal use, then go and buy the personal OC products. Do not get anything that says "Law Enforcement Use Only" and definately stay away from the foam. You admit that you aren't supposed to have any on your job, if you have to use it Jail will be the least of your worries as you can count on a huge Civil Lawsuit. Is it even legal to posess pepper spray in Delaware? If not then forget it. My advice to you is if you are that concerned for your safety then take a self defense class. Learn how to properly defend yourself and give yourself multiple tools. OC, Tasers and Firearms are all nice but can all be defeated. I have seen reports where people have been shot several times and still were able to attack. There are also people out there that can shake off OC and Tasers as if they were nothing.

Laws and rules are there to protect you believe it or not. If your not supposed to have something, then don't tempt fate and get it anyway. It is best to follow the law and your policies when it comes to stuff like this.

      Great advice.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one. Firearms are, in fact, the most effective form of self defense known to man. Just the sight of a firearm is a far better deterrent to a personal attack than anyone's hands or feet. Not saying that self defense classes aren't a good idea; all I'm saying is that if one wants to maximize his chances of getting out alive and unharmed, carrying a handgun and learning to shoot is the best way to go.

Absolutely, correct. It's called the will to live. Not to mention what a little PCP can do for a person. When you add PCP and adrenaline you got yourself a huge problem.

I agree and disagree in some aspects here. The most effective tool (other than the ink pen) is common sense. The knuckleheads now-a-days are smarter when it comes to law. They know that you can't shoot them unless they give you a pretty damn good reason to. I know many security officers that feel the gun is going to scare them off. Offensive/Defensive tactics will be used more times than most security officers draw their weapon. We (in the private sector) do not have immunity as our cousins in sworn law enforcement. The firearm is the last resort of force to be used. The first point of force is your mere presence.

Um what!!!! Firearms are not as effective as people think. Don't get me wrong, I am pro gun and Pro 2nd amendment. With that said, there are thousands of reports of suspects getting shot and it not stopping the attack. Almost any pd who has had a shooting has had a situation like this. There was a famous one several years ago involving I think the LAPD where a suspect was high on PCP and was attacking the officers. OC, a taser (the origianl from the 80's) and a shotgun were all deployed. While the suspect later died as a result of the shotgun wound, he was still able to fight for like 30 seconds and severely injured several officers before bleeding out. My point is not any one tool is 100% effective and to think so is foolhardy at best. LEO's carry and utilize several tools just for that reason. If your going to have a firearm, you need to be proficient with it and have proper ammo. Being able to be fluid and transition from one tool to the next is the most effective. Using a firearm to "intimidate" is not effective and is stupid. You pull your firearm, you better be ready to shoot. Remember the 4 rules of gun safety, with one of them being "never point your gun at anything you are not willing to shoot".
