After reading RANova's thread Online LP Training? I did some online research on LP Certification and found information announcing the creation of an industry-wide initiative to create a worldwide uniform curriculum for a new LP Certification process created by a quadruple joint venture effort of the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA), Loss Prevention magazine, the Loss Prevention Certification Council, and the Loss Prevention Foundation.

Retailers met at Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) headquarters last week to outline the details of a new Loss Prevention Certification process. Initiated through a partnership between RILA and Loss Prevention magazine, the program is designed to standardize the loss prevention education process. “This industry-wide initiative will create a common language among the entire loss prevention community through standardized education, beginning with the entry-level associate,” said RILA's Rhett Asher, VP of retail operations and loss prevention. “The certification will offer a uniform curriculum for those individuals beginning their career in loss prevention, and will expand the pool of qualified candidates for the loss prevention community.” The Loss Prevention Certification Council includes loss prevention executives from both RILA member and non-member companies, including AutoZone, Best Buy, CVS, Dollar General, Food Lion, Jack in the Box, Kohl's, Limited Brands, Lowe's, Michaels, Nike, Office Depot, Pathmark, PepBoys, Safeway, Target, TJX, Walgreen and Wal-Mart.
And here's the details of the program http://www.losspreventioncertificati...-LearnMore.htm.
If the certification is too expensive for you to pay for out-of-pocket, may I suggest seeking employment with one of the companies mentioned in the above article so they can pay for your training. I hope this thread helps all those who are interested in a career in Loss Prevention.
