    Malls are vulnerable to all sorts of problems because they're open spaces.

    Curious as to whether this was planned (like the organized looting of stores we've seen in other incidents), or if some rivalry or social event got out of hand. I don't blame the police - trying to get 100 teens to do anything is difficult enough...

    Clearly malls and local PD need to have contingency plans for this - even if they have mutual aid agreements, other cities can only lend so many officers at a time. I know in our state the highway patrol is very understaffed and spread thin, so that isn't always going to be the "go to" plan.
