    Michael,

From your descriptions Boeing sounds like a squared-away outfit. When I was a police sergeant for a college PD in Long Beach, CA I would occasionally run into the Boeing security guys and girls from the Long Beach plant. I was always impressed with their knowledge and professionalism. The fact that the police call on your department to assist them speaks very highly of your organization.

However, until the security industry adopts screening and training standards equal to, or at least slightly less than, sworn police agencies you will not nor should you be treated as equal to a police officer. I have always said that in-house security guards are several rungs above those who work for contract companies, because every in-house security department I know of has stringent background and training requirements which keeps most of the losers and cop wanna-be's out.

I agree, I think security training is a joke. Here in the State of Washington you sit down watch a four hour video and take a test thats your training. I understand that security is not police work but in this day and age of terrorism i think governments and agencies need to put their egos in check and realise that good or not security officers out number police officers in this country and it would be a smart idea to train them to a point where they would be beneficial. Am I saying that we need a bunch of wannabes running around playing cop, no I'm not. All I am saying is that the training and minimum requirements can be improved and should be improved. I also think police officers need to realise that security is only as good as the training. Police officers typically think of security as a bunch of wannabes but with the lack of training involved its not hard to think that by "acting like a cop" your doing the right thing. It just frustrates me that a tool as useful as private security goes underutilized by agencies. I agree with you Boeing is pretty squared away but like you said their in house and they can control who they hire

In early 2000's I had a job as an auditor which required me to travel all up and down the West Coast. I spent about 3 months total in Washington State. My favorite place had to be Grey's Harbor. It was what most people think that Washington looks like.

I also spent some time in such areas as Yakima, Pasco, and Wenatchee. Not quite as nice. I remember checking into my hotel in Pasco and asking the girl behind the counter what there was to do in town. The girl had to concentrate for about a minute, then said, "There's bowling!"

I also stayed in Kent while I was working the Seattle area, and I used to go right by the Boeing plant on my way into the city.

hahaha... that made me laugh a little bit, out of Kennewick, Richland and Pasco, you chose Pasco? I would never stay a night there. I remember my first time driving through there, and after like 20 minutes, I passed the Franklin county courthouse and the first thing that came to my mind was "Oh... that must be the U.S. Embassy"
