  • Hello from Texas

    Hello all checking in.

    A little about me:

I have been in the Security Business for a number of years as a Commissioned Security Officer and Private Investigator here in Texas. I spent 8 years in the military and completed the Texas Peace Officers course. I have worked all kinds of sites as a Security Officer Including cleaning up several Section 8 Apartment complexes and working at Texas legal Casino's or "Amusement centers". As a private investigator I did Asset recovery and Bail recovery cases for several years.

Anyway i was talking with a friend last night and he brought up the idea that it would be cool if someone opened a forum for Security Officers so I went looking for one and here i am.

Personally I have never managed a Security Company yet. That is something i plan on changing after i get back from my next tour to Iraq. However the Bail and Asset recovery I did manage. For the most part we would deal with smaller car lots and bail shops who did not have in house recovery to take care of the issue. The contracts where easy enough to get I would just dress nicely, walk in and ask to speak to the owner or manager. I netted more contracts that way then by any other method. Around here the competition is pretty slim for PI work as most people didn't want to handle Bail recovery or Asset recovery and the ones who did where usually not as professional as my outfit.

The Security company i work for now got the contract with the "gaming centers" here by pretty much doing the same thing.

I was wanting info on Texas Security. What types of firearms are allowed? training hours? cost for license? what's the difference in commissioned and non-commissioned sec. officers? Arrest or detainment powers? typical pay for armed, unarmed? basically generic info.thanks

In general for North Texas/DFW region:

                          Guns nothing smaller than a 9 mm/.38

Average pay for Unarmed is 7.00-10.00, and Armed is 10.00-15.00
