  • Brand Spankin new guy!!! :D

Hey there all security officers out there. I just wanna say we rule!!!

I work at saint john police detention, full-time. I watch prisoners and drunks that come off the street. Get them ready for court. Fun stuff. Ive been a security guard for one year now. Im armed with a radio and two fists lol. If a prisoner jumps me i get to fight back lmao. :P I get more death threats then a guy oweing money to a mafia does. haha...... The reason i joined security was because of a very stupid and a imaginative thinking, if u ever watched dawn of the dead the newest one, thats what made me wanna try to be a security guard hahahaha... anyway young and foolish mind......is more corrupted with death threats now, i cant go any wheres without watching my back.... and im only 20 another year of this and ill have to move out of my country lmfao..... This is a great site, hopefully i can get a few tips from more experienced jail watchers.... Again Thank you security officers you guys rule!!! lol oh by the way i work with all cops in saint john.....so i got nothing against cops and they got nothing against me :P..... chow

I'm confused. Are you a Corrections Officer (jailer) who works as a Security Officer on the side for extra pay? Or are you a jailer who's title is 'Security Officer' as opposed to 'Corrections Officer'? Or are you employed by a Security Company which is contracted to the detention facility to handle inmates like Wackenhut which actually ownes and operates several private prisons?

The third option sounds bout like it, Im hired by a Security company to guard prisoners in a detention. Its a contract for the police detention which the company got a hold of. Im not a correctional officer, im not a police officer, im a security officer.

Any more questions i be glad to answer.

For those of you scratching your head, sworn detention deputies is a very southern thing. Up north, alot of jailers are non-sworn, and are NOT considered in Law Enforcement by the law enforcement community. They're seen about the same as clerical.

It was an even split in California. Some COs were technically 'public officers' and given very little training. The agency I worked for hired all it's people as deputy sheriffs so they would have a well trained, ready supply of people ready to hit the streets when the time came. It sucked working in the jail for 6 months (seemed like 6 years!), but that first day on patrol was like a dream- until I saw some of my old 'customers'

At least you got out of corrections. In Florida, most correctional deputies don't get the luxury. Although, I understand that some California agencies make EVERYONE work 6 months in the jail. I think this is a good idea, as it exposes the patrol officer to the other side, what happens after they remand the prisoner to the detention deputies.

Thanks for clearing that up N.A.Corbier. Thank you for the welcoming, im looking forward in reading all information. But to bad I couldnt wear a gun lol, I prolly gain a lot more respect then I do now as a security guard. Even when im out on the street, im not allowed to be equiped with anything. Security sometimes confuses me I get nothing to secure the place. If it wasnt for me paying for my own cell phone. I would have to fight to the death until some one calls the cops, which lmfao happens rarely until some one is dead bleeding from a gun shot. Im serious its almost like living in the Bronx all criminals on streets either carry a pistol or a large blade of some sort. Personally i think we should be mandatory issued knife/bullet proof vests, while on street duty.

No. It just means that most of the rules we "take for granted" don't apply to you, usually. Such as a contract security company providing corrections officers. Down here, the Correction Officers and Jailers are usually protected against such things by the Faternal Order of Police, of which they can have membership in.
