Utahprotectionforce found me on Myspace and let me know about this place and invited me here. After lurking a few nights on the boards and reading a few threads, I have to say I already feel right at home with others in this field. I live in San Antonio Texas, and have been a PSO for about 5 years off and on. Currently I'm a LV III "Commissioned" officer working for one of the best companies in the city [name withheld for legal reasons] who fields Peace Officer's usually in the capacity of Sheriffs and Constables, as well as us PSOs.
I've been doing mostly construction site gigs lately, which are ubber boring to me being strictly O&R, ---but always taken seriously of course--- but I'm going back into the CRE (Contract Regulation Enforcement) area of things where I can actually know/feel I made a difference during my shift time along with O&R. We work hand in hand with SAPD on those sites [when needed of course] and have a lot of good ppl there to always back us up. It's great being able to work with vets who give us the pearls of wisdom I just didn't get at other companies prior. After learning the hard way about carrying too much equipment like a cop, I just keep it basic these days. (1) M1911 .45ACP [USGI Springfield] single stack, w. 8rnd magazine + 1. (3) 8rnd Spare Mags, (1) pair of handcuffs, (1) Maglite. I've found that anything more is just too cumbersome, and I learned the hard way about pepper spray so I don't carry that anymore, as it got all over everything and made ME sick too.
ANYHOW, I'm glad to be here and look forward to chatting the rest of you and overall learning more in this field from all over. It's interesting to see how things are different and yet the same in other places.
